Warwick Mall Mock Directory - 1970-1990

Since I have not been able to find a directory of Warwick Mall before 1996, I have been trying to come up with what would have been at least close to a directory of the mall in its early years from 1970 to 1990.  These years are before the major renovations of the mall, including the addition of a food court, which began in 1991.   Using city directories, later mall directories, newspaper ads/stories and photos, I came up with at least a mock directory of the inside of the mall during those years by unit number along with the names of the stores.  It does not take into consideration rest rooms/offices and the exact size of the stores. It is just to get an idea of what stores were there and about where they were located in the mall.   The three anchors (Jordan Marsh, Filenes and JC Penney) and three sub-anchors (Woolworth, Outlet/Caldor and Peerless) are shown with larger spaces.

The mall remained basically unchanged during its first decade of existence with only about a dozen smaller store openings/closings after opening in October 1970.  The first major change occurred with the building of a third anchor (JC Penney) outside units 156 and 160. JC Penney opened in 1980.  There were a few more changes in its second decade, including Caldor replacing The Outlet in 1983.

Note: Dates marked with an asterick (*) are approximate and may not be the exact year. Dates marked with (**) mean that the store may have moved to a nearby location, although the dates show the total time in the mall.

Warwick Mall Directory - 1996

Here is an actual directory of Warwick Mall from 1996 (credit: Mallmanac).  The Jordan Marsh had just turned into Macy's earlier that year.

The stores are shown in the actual directory using a new numbering system.  I listed each store below using the unit numbers seen above as well as the new directory numbers.  As can be seen, in addition to the addition of the food court, there were many store changes within Warwick Mall from 1991 to 1996 (changes are marked in yellow). Over half of the stores had a different tenant than they had five years earlier.  Only JC Penney, Lane Bryant (an original tenant from 1970), Victoria's Secret, Claire's (at a different location) and Macy's (also at a different location) remain inside the mall as of 2025. Also, Karten's Jewelers became Zales later in 1996 and is still at that location.

Warwick Mall Directory - 2002

Here is an actual directory of Warwick Mall from 2002.  Old Navy had replaced Caldor as an anchor and there was not quite as much turnover from 1996 to 2002 as there had been in the previous five or six years with about 40% of the stores changing hands.
