Warwick, RI

Did you ever wonder what the restaurant, grocery store, department store or bank that you shop or patronize while in Warwick, RI used to be (at least going back to the late 50's)?  Maybe not, but if you have, here are some of them listed by street name and street number (the list will be continuously expanded and updated).  To search for a particular business or street, hit the "Ctrl" key (lower left area of your keyboard) AND the letter "F" key at the same time.  Credit for much of the information goes to the Warwick Public Library and the archives of the Providence Journal and Warwick Beacon. Note: The names of the current business establishments listed below may have changed for any given address since the post was written, although I try to update them as often as possible. 

Airport Road (formerly Occupasstuxet Road until the early 70's)

5 - The Airway Diner (see photo) was located on the northwest side of Hoxsie Four Corners from about 1954 until closing in the fall of 1967.
18 - Dave's Marketplace (since October 1996) used to be an Almacs supermarket from 1951 until December 1995.
19 - Torn down in 2007 to make way for Hoxie Crossing plaza, this used to be Tuffy's Aquarium & Pet Center from the late 70's until about the late 90's.  Earlier, it was Airway Toy Center (early 60's), RI Cycle & Sporting Goods (early-to-mid 60's), Clarmar Millinery Supplies (mid 60's to early 70's) and New York Bagels (early-to-mid 70's). 29 - This used to be Airport Bakery from about 1951 to 1965. It then became My Beauty Shoppe from about 1968 to 1983 and Rhonda's Hair Salon after that. Before being torn down in 2007, this was Shear Elegance beauty shop in the early 00's.
33 - This used to be New York System restaurant from the late 60's until becoming L & M's Place restaurant in 1977. It was later Ken's Place by 1980, Hastings Homestyle Restaurant by 1987, Carole's Restaurant by 1989 and Papa Joe's Restaurant by 1993. Before being torn down in 2007, this was also Joey O's Restaurant in the early 00's.
40 - Home Loan Investment Bank (since 1989) used to be Industrial National Bank (changed to Fleet National Bank in 1982) from the early 50's until moving to 50 West Shore Rd. in about 1987.
45 - Speedway (since 2015) was a Hess service station for about 45 years.   Below: Hess Service Station in 1987.

50 - Great Clips (among others) started as King's 5 cent and 10 cent store in May 1959. By 1964, it became R.I. Department of Employment & Training all the way through the 90's.
63 - Five Guys Restaurant (since January 2021) used to be a Jack-In-The Box restaurant (1970 to at least January 1980) and Taco Maker Of Warwick (September 1980 into the 00's). Other restaurants here included Chelo's Good-To-Go, Tim Horton's (opened in 2009), Eggroll Café, 4Corners Coffee and Daisy Joe's Hot Chicken & Biscuits. 667 - Hooters Restaurant (opened in August 1993 until 2015 with renovations starting in February 2020 to reopen) used to be a Lum's Restaurant from about 1969 to 1982. It then became Pizza Cassino in late 1983, then Pub Dennis in 1984 and Flyer's in 1990. For many years before Lum's (at least going back to the 1930's until the mid-to-late 60's), it was the location of Airport Inn Restaurant.(see photo). Photo Credit: Grew Up In Rhode Island

685 - All Stars Bar & Restaurant used to be Europa Pizza & Food Restaurant, which opened in 1995. It later became Bobby J.'s Family Restaurant by 1999.

699 - Airport Car Wash (since about 1986) used to be Car One Car Wash (with Amoco Gas) from the late 70's to mid 80's. Going back to the mid-to-late 60's to the early-to-mid 70's, a Robo Car Wash was here, but listed at 727 Airport Rd.

731 - The former Rosie's Lounge (torn down in 2018) used to be Sha Na Na's from June 1985 until 2006.  In between it was Octane.
747 - Also torn down in 2018, this used to be Emily's Snack Bar in the late 50's and early 60's. After being vacant, it became Smith-Harriet Furniture in the mid-to-late 60's until the mid 70's, Unfinished Furniture (HP Hood & Co.) from the late 70's to early 80's, Gothic Cabinet Craft from the early-to-mid 80's into the 90's and New England Furniture Craft among others into the 00's.
757 - Also torn down in 2018, this used to be Mister Panel from the early to late 70's and then Carpet House before becoming a Big N' Tall clothing store from the early-to-mid 80's into the 00's. It was also Florsheim Shoes and Dickie's.
767 - One of the longest running fast-food restaurants in Warwick, KFC has been operating at this location since the summer of 1968.
800 - A Kartway go-kart track and miniature golf course were here (Forge Amusement Corp.) from about 1962 into the early 70's until Airport Plaza was built.

Atlantic Avenue
333 - The second floor of this 116-year old building now housing multiple businesses used to be the Lakewood Free Library from 1930 until closing (and surprising the future author of this blog who attempted to return two books only to find the doors locked and closed for good!) in 1971. It was built in 1904 as Lakewood Town Hall.

Bald Hill Road
155 - Just over the Cranston line and torn down in 2014 to build CarMax, the former Building 19 store (opened in February 2003) used to be a Zayre Department Store going back to August 1968 until converting to Ames Department Store in 1988 until 2002.
155 - The store adjacent to the above used to be a Stop & Shop Supermarket from October 1968 to the late 80's, when it became Child World until 1992.  It then became The Book Market.  From 1994 to 2010, it was a Syms Clothing store.
336 - Red Rice Restaurant (since 2015) used to be Shamrock Café (also called Shamrock Inn) from about the early 1940's until the early 00's. It was later Twist Restaurant from 2004 to 2013.
399 - West Marine at Warwick Commons Shopping Center (since about 2014) and Tesla Cars (since 2019) used to be a Filene's Basement store from November 1985 until 1999. It then became a Bed, Bath & Beyond from 2000 to 2010.  Previously, this had been the location of Fiore Pontiac from 1958 to 1985 (moved down the road to 525 Quaker Lane, West Warwick).
399 (10) - Uno Pizzeria and Grill (formerly known as Pizzeria Uno and Uno Chicago Grill) has been operating at this location at Warwick Commons since 1986.
400 - See Warwick Mall below.
641 - This used to be Louie's Restaurant from about the early 50's to the mid 60's. It then became Villa Lounge by 1967 and The Red Onion Restaurant by 1971 until about 1977. It would later become Harris Furs from about 1979 for the next 40 years.

650 (Also see Rhode Island Mall below) - Located in a standalone building on the outside of Rhode Island Mall (now Midland Commons), Chuck E. Cheese opened here in February 2000.

650 - Located just to the right of Chuck E. Cheese on Bald Hill Rd. is a Wendy's Restaurant, which opened in 1999.
685 - Hannoush Jewelers used to be Warwick Federal Savings & Loan from 1970 to about 1983. It later became Universal Properties in the mid-to-late 80's into the 90's.
699 - T-Mobile used to be a Dunkin' Donuts location from February 1967 all the way until about 2023.
735 - RI E-cig and Vapes used to be Gino's Pizza from about 1969 to 1979, when it became Midland Pizza. It was later Perfect Pizza & Restaurant by 1983, Ara's Pizza & Restaurant by 1987 and Rice Bowl Chinese Restaurant by 1991.
743 - Warwick Ice Cream has been operating out of this art-deco style building since about 1940 after starting out in a nearby smaller building in 1930.
745 - This used to be Fruitland from at least the late 50's to the mid-to-late 80's. It then became Dolls and Daffodils from 1988 to at least 1994.  In the late 40's and early 50's, Fruitland was located at 477 Bald Hill Rd.  
790 - Hearthside Fireplace & Patio used to be Carpet Giant, which opened here in September 1980 and operated into the 90's. It was later Flooring America and The Floor Center.
835 - This started as Lessard Atlantic service station in about 1966.  By 1969, it was Nick's Atlantic (converted to Nick's Arco in 1970) until changing brands as Nick's Chevron about 1981.  In the mid-to-late 80's, it would change to Texaco as Nick's Automotive.  It operated into the early 00's and was torn down later that decade. 850 - Men's Warehouse used to be Strawberries Records & Tapes for about 25 years after opening in March 1981 (JB105's Mike Waite broadcasted his show live from the store at the grand opening).  In between, it was a FYE store.
857 - The Bald Hill Road Car Wash location used to be the site of the popular Maryland Chicken Roost restaurant from 1938 until January 1984 when a grease fire gutted the building.  Uncle Matty's Flower & Plant Shop was then here from 1986 into the 90's.
876 - McDonald's (since July 1987) used to be the location of The Helm Restaurant from May 1970 to 1986 and then torn down. Before that, Jolly Chef restaurant was here from about 1952 to 1969. Photos: Jolly Chef Restaurant (top) and The Helm - Credit: Grew Up in Rhode Island

877 - Taco Bell (since December 1988) used to be a Wendy's Restaurant going back to March 1979 and operating until about May 1988.  Did you know? The Wendy's Restaurant that opened here was the first Wendy's in Rhode Island.

886 - This has been a Jiffy Lube since November 1989.

895 - Dunkin' Donuts used to be a Quikava drive-thru coffee shop from 1996 to 2004.
920 - Launch Trampoline Park used to be Murray's Discount store from April 1980 until June 1996.  It then became Bernie's TV and Appliance starting in 1998 until January 2010 and Bernie & Phyl's Furniture from October 2010 until about 2017.

933 - This has only been listed as Peter Amoriggi's Seafood and The Fisherman's Net restaurant during the early-to-mid 80's timeframe.
945 (A) - Hobby Lobby (since October 2012) used to be Rickel Home Center from May 1986 until closing in 1990.  It then became Office Stop office supply store later in 1990 and in 1992 became a CompUSA store until 2011.

945 (B) - Work N' Gear (moved from unit C about 2013) used to be a Kids "R" Us store from about 1986 to 2003. It then became an Office Depot that was closed by 2008.

945 (C) - This used to be Wear Guard work clothes store beginning about 1986. It later became Work N' Gear until moving to Unit B.
945 (D) - The former Price Rite used to be RX Place from October 1986 until closing in late 2001.
945 (front) - This used to be a Boaters World/Ritz Camera store until Hobby Lobby took over this part of the building as well as the old Comp USA space in 2012.

969 - Chipotle Mexican Grill (since 2007) used to be a Popeye's Chicken restaurant from 1984 to about 1989.  It became Panino Presto restaurant in June 1991 for a little over one year and then Bickford's Family Restaurant in June 1993 for over 12 years into the mid 00's.
1000 (1) - Popeye's Louisianna Kitchen used to be a Papa Gino's restaurant from 1987 into the early-to-mid 00's. It was later a Tim Horton's Restaurant in the late 00's, Boloco restaurant from 2013 to 2017 and Zambrero restaurant (opened in March 2018 until closing in December 2020).  
1000 (4) - Trader Joe's (since 2008) had previously been GCO Floor Outlet. Earlier at about this location was a Highland Superstores electronics and home appliance store from November 1987 until closing in 1991 in what was originally known as Highland Plaza, although the plaza was owned at that time by Papa Gino's. Later here for the rest of the 90's was an Office Max location.
1000 (11) - Panera Bread (since February 2007) used to be Shoney's Restaurant from 1992 to 1997.  In between, it was a Lone Star Steakhouse (opened in 1999).
1010 - This has been a Burger King restaurant since about 1977.
1020 - AutoZone used to be a Namco Pools store from 2001 to about 2013.

1020 - Walt's Roast Beef (since 1996) used to be Roger Clemens Sports World Wood-Roasted Chicken (changed to Roger Clemens Cafe Boston in 1995) from 1993 to 1996.

1021-1035 - Bald Hill Dodge Chrysler Jeep used to be Bald Hill Subaru (listed at 1035 Bald Hill Rd.) going back to about 1979 and going into the 2000's. Bald Hill Kia next door (listed at 1021 Bald Hill) has been there since at least 2008. Previously at 1021 Bald Hill was Bald Hill Realty Company.

1050 - A Mobil self-service station has been operating at this location since about 1975 (photo from 1984).

1070 - The former Rite-Aid (earlier Brooks and now Walgreens) Pharmacy is at the location that was an Exxon self-service station in the late 70's and early 80's. Photos: In the mid 80's, a vacant Exxon self-service station could be seen at the corner of Bald Hill Rd. and Toll Gate Rd.

1074 - At about the location of 1070 Bald Hill Rd. today used to be The Tollgate Restaurant from about 1940 and operating into the 50's. Later in the 50's and through the 60's, this was an H.P. Hood dairy products facility before being torn down in the 70's.
1085 - Town Fair Tire used to be the address of D.G.'s Arcade (previously at Airport Plaza) from 1990 to about 1993.
1087 - Now multiple businesses, this used to be a Benny's Home & Auto store from late 1966 to about the early 90's.  It later became Leather Center.
1134 - Sonic Drive-In Restaurant was built at the location that used to be Tai Dee Garden Restaurant from about 1970 until shortly before becoming Japanese Steak House in 1998.
1245 - Target Department Store (since July 1999) at Bald Hill Place before being rebuilt used to be a Lechmere Department store from November 1985 to November 1997.
1245 - Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet (since late 2012) used to be Hometown Buffet from January 1996 to early 2012.  Earlier here from the fall of 1990 to January 1995 was a Chuck E, Cheese Restaurant (moved from 1960 Post Rd.).  Chuck E, Cheese would return at a new location at 650 Bald Hill Rd. about five years later.

1245 - TJ Maxx (now with Home Goods) has operated here at Bald Hill Place (formerly Bald Hill Plaza) since the plaza's opening in November 1985.

1245 - Besides Lechmere and TJ Maxx, the other major store to open at Bald Hill Plaza in November 1985 was Paperama, which operated here until about 1997 at the current location of Harbor Freight.
1276 (30) - Staples has operated at their current location within the Summit Square Plaza since a new wing of the plaza was built in 1998. Staples originally opened at the plaza in April 1990, replacing Loehmann's (1986 to 1989). 

1276 (40) - PetSmart has operated at the Summit Square Plaza since 1995 although not at the same location, after being converted from a Petstuff store, which opened in 1994.

1276 (50) - This used to be Modell's Sporting Goods at Summit Square Plaza, which opened in April 2005 until about 2013.

1276 - Chili's Restaurant at Summit Square (formerly Loehmann's Plaza from 1986 to 1989) has operated here since February 1987.

1276 - Saladworks (since April 2022) used to be a Pier 1 Imports store from about 1986 to 2020.
1301 - Lumber Liquidators used to be a Tweeter Audio Video store from late 1989 to early 2009.  In between, it was Sleepy's The Mattress Pros.

1350 (1) - The Edge Fitness Clubs at Warwick (since November 2019) at Warwick Center used to be a Dick's Sporting Goods Store from about 2003 to 2018.

1350 (2) - Party City (since about 2016) and The Paper Store (since 2022) used to be a Linens N' Things from about 2003 to 2009.

1350 (8) - Barnes & Noble opened here at Warwick Center in November 2003 after moving from 1441 Bald Hill Rd. 

1350 (9) - DSW Shoes opened here at Warwick Center in November 2003.

1350 (10)- Carrabba's Italian Grill opened at Warwick Center in December 2003.

1376 - The Vitamin Shoppe and Webster Bank (since December 2005) used to be East Side Mario's Restaurant from November 1994 to March 1999.  It then became Chevys Fresh Mex Restaurant shortly after in 1999.
1400 (A) - The Tile Shop used to be a Just for Pets Superstore starting in 1995.  By 1998, it had become a Petco store until about 2010 (moved to 300 Quaker Lane).  It then became Cheeps Thrift Store in 2011 for a short time. Earlier here before being rebuilt was Cedar Craft Co. for over 20 years.

1400 (B) - Cycle Gear used to be Daddy's Junky Music for over 10 years.

1401 - Best Buy (since October 1999 and listed at 24 Universal Blvd.) at Bald Hill Commons plaza used to be an Edwards Super Food Store from May 1993 until 1996. It then became a Ro-Jack's Food Store from February 1997 to March 1999.
1441 - Herb Chambers automobile dealership used to be a Barnes & Noble bookstore from August 1992 to November 2003 (moved to 1350 Bald Hill Rd.). It started as a Leiser electronics and appliance superstore from about 1989 to 1992.
1500 - A group of stores (Jo-Ann Fabrics, the former Bed Bath & Beyond and Bob's Furniture) now occupy the space that was about a 119,000 square foot Kmart department store from 1993 to 2003 after moving from 1075 Centerville Rd.  It was converted to a Big Kmart in the late 90's.
1500 - LA Fitness (since 2015) used to be a Shaw's Supermarket from 1993 until closing in February 2011.

1500 (B) - The former Bed, Bath and Beyond (2010 to 2023) used to be an Ashley Furniture store until about 2009.
1500 (G) - Torn down in 2014 and the area now used for parking for Chick-Fil-A, this used to be a Boston Market restaurant from 1997 to 2010. It was earlier a Kenny Rogers Roasters restaurant starting in 1994.
1557 - Mercedes Benz of Warwick occupies the address that used to be The Golden Lantern Restaurant from 1964 until 1986, when it became Montana Restaurant.  The Golden Lantern was known as the place where celebrities would dine after performing at the Warwick Musical Theatre. Later restaurants here included Giorgio Foods, Flamingo (opened in 1990) and China Inn (opened in 1992).

Bay Avenue
1 - This used to be Bayview Seafood Restaurant from the mid 80's into the 90's and became One Bay Avenue Restaurant in 1998. It was then Timmy's One Bay Landing & Restaurant from 2005 to 2014 and Christopher's Landing until late 2018.

Boylston Street

41 -  This used to be Cotter's Cafe from about the mid-to-late 50's to the mid 70's. By the early 90's, it was Village Cafe and later torn down.  It had earlier been Barn Cafe (listed at 37 Boylston St) from at least the early 40's to mid 50's. 

Buttonwoods Avenue
195 - Warwick DHS used to be an S & H Green Stamps Redemption Center from about early 1983 until December 1983 (moved to 1442 Warwick Ave.).  Warwick Community Action was there from the mid 80's to at least 1992 and it was also used as temporary quarters for the Warwick Public Library during their reconstruction project in 1997 and 1998.
198 - The former CVS Pharmacy (from late 2013 until 2023) used to be Oxnard Pharmacy, which moved here from across the street (205 Buttonwoods Ave.) around 1994.  Prior to that, it had been a Rite Aid Pharmacy going back to about the early 80's.

199 -This used to be an Electrolux vacuum store from about 1970 and operating into the 90's. It had earlier been Economy Liquors in the mid-to-late 60's (later at 211 Buttonwoods Ave.).
201 - This used to be The Flower Pot from about 1970 and operating into the 90's. It had earlier been John Angelo Hair Fashions in the mid-to-late 60's.
205 - Westbay Community Action used to be Oxnard Pharmacy from 1963 until moving to 198 Buttonwoods Ave. about 1994.
207 - This used to be Andy's Pizza from the mid 60's to the mid-to-late 70's. It became Family Carpet Center in the late 70's before becoming Buttonwoods Cleaners through the 80's and into the 90's.
211 - This used to be Buttonwoods Liquors from about 1975 and operating into the 90's. Earlier it had been Economy Liquors in the late 60's before becoming Keach Liquors by 1972.
214 - Buttonwoods One Stop Convenience Store used to be Buttonwoods Discount Bakery in the mid-to-late 80's. It then became Jan & Bob's Variety Store by the early 90's.
220 - Now part of CCAP, this used to be Lindy's Deli from the late 80's into the early 00's.
231 - This used to be a Fotomat film booth from about the mid-to-late 70's to the late 80's.
416 - Buttonwoods Fish & Chips (since 1970) used to be Family Pharmacy in the 50's until the mid 60's.
418 - A.C.E. K9 Academy used to be Sno-White Cleaners in the 50's until becoming Italian Bread Box bakery in the mid-to-late 70's until the early 80's, It then became Prime Time Coverage clothing store and later Anita's Cheesecake and Bakery by the mid 80's.
426 - Pizza Plus (since the mid 80's) at Buttonwoods Terrace Plaza used to be Pizza King from the mid-to-late 70's to the mid 80's. It started out as Salfield Raceway slot car track from the mid 60's to the early-to -mid 70's and then became Buttonwoods Antique Village and Mary Lou School of Dance.
428 - This used to be Central Market from the early 50's to the early 60's before becoming Buttonwoods American Market by early 1961 for the rest of the 60's.  In the 70's, it was Meachino's Supermarket and in the 80's it was first White's Supermarket and later Second Hand Furniture Outlet and The Mail Box.

Centerville Road
1 - Ripe Tomato and Captain's Catch restaurants used to be S & S Drugs (moved from 3316 Post Rd.) from 1960 until about 1987 when it became Warwick Prescription Center. Previously at this location before 1960 was LP's Pizza.
70 - Plant City X used to be a Burger King from 1982 until closing 35 years later at the end of 2017. 
989 - TGI Fridays Restaurant operated at this location for 36 years from 1984 until closing in February 2020.
1075 - Now part of Inskip's Warwick Auto Mall, this used to be a Kmart department store from August 1972 (see photo) until late 1993. It then became a Building 19 store in early 1994.

1085 - Next door to Kmart, this building opened on the same day in August 1972 as a Big G Supermarket, before being converted to Scott's briefly and then Valueland from 1979 to the mid 90's.
1595 - On The Roch's restaurant (since 1978) used to be Margie's Sandwich Shop from at least the late 50's until about 1976.  It then briefly became King's Table restaurant.

Division Street

1149 - Located at the East Greenwich line, the former Eleven Forty-Nine Restaurant (2007 to 2020) used to be Floyd's Fine Foods starting in 1973 for the rest of the decade (sold in late 1979).  It was then Camelot Court (opened in 1980), Rosebud's by late 1981, Jason's by 1986 until the early 00's, Paragon (opened in early 2003) and Mario's Bravo (name change in 2006). The building was torn down in July 2022 to make way for a new Neon Marketplace store.

East Avenue
340 - Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Co. used to be the popular Casa Lupita Mexican Restaurant from February 1984 to late 1993 or early 1994.  It then became Quila's Mexican Restaurant from June 1994 until 1995.
375 - Located just east of Rhode Island Mall, BJ's Market (since May 2022) used to be a Toys 'R' Us store, which opened in November 1978 and operated for just about 40 years until closing in June 2018.

Elmwood Avenue
1700 - Classic Blends Barbershop used to be Sportsman's Lounge from at least the 1930's until about 1964. After vacancies, it became Kirby's Of Warwick vacuum cleaners during the 70's in the front and ABC Distributors in the back. Businesses here later included Mister G's Creations jewelry and Cycle King motorcycle accessories.  Did you know?: The stretch of Elmwood Ave. between here and the intersection of Post Rd. was known to many as "Nightclub Row"  from the 1930's to the 50's as there were four well-known clubs in this area (Sportsman's Lounge, The Viking, The Stork Club - later The Cabana and Club Sunset-see 1092 Post Rd. below).  
1780 - The former Warwick Billiards (opened in 1990) used to be The Diplomat Lounge from 1964 until 1982 when it became Gabby's Lounge until 1990.  Before The Diplomat, it was called The Viking going back to at least the 1930's.

2077 - This used to be the location of The Cabana (later Copa-Cabana) restaurant and lounge from 1941 until about 1950. It had earlier been The Stork Club, a popular restaurant and night club/theater in the mid-to-late 30's and The Esquire in 1940 (both listed at 2043 Elmwood before the Warwick street numbers were changed in about that same year of 1940). By the late 50's, Eastern Sash Engineering was at that address and various machinery and building companies have been here ever since.
2128 - Seasons Corner Market (since 2014) and Shell Service Station and Car Wash (since the mid 70's) used to be M-Bro Car Wash in the late 60's and early 70's.
2130 - During the mid-to-late 50's, a Richard's Drive-In Restaurant operated at this location.  By 1960, it was listed as vacant and the vacant listings continued until being torn down by the mid-to-late 60's.

2150 - This used to be Norwood Bend Service Station from the mid-to-late 50's to the mid-to-late 60's and torn down before M-Bro Car Wash was built by 1969.
2168 - California Taco Shop (since 2014) used to be Cosmic Steak & Pizza (opened in 1976) before moving across the street to Post Rd. and then Harry's New York System, which opened in 1995.  Photo: Cosmic Steak & Pizza at its original location in the mid-to-late 80's.
2174 - Most recently a nails salon in the small strip mall along with the above restaurant, this used to be the address of the popular Kool Korner ice cream shop from at least the late 40's until about 1964.

Fair Street
39-41 - Located at the corner of Fair and North Fair and advertising in 1950 as the oldest grocery store in Pawtuxet, Stockard's Market (later operating as Jack's Delicatessen in the 60's) closed in October 1966 after a 35-year run at this location. Photo credit: The Bridge

239 - The first floor of this two-story residence at the corner of Fair and Roosevelt used to be a small market named Capron's going back to at least the mid 1930's.  The store was still operating in 1969 but was not open for too much longer after that and was listed as vacant by 1970.

Greenwich Avenue
118 - Lofgren's Record Shop was here from the late 40's until closing after a fire in 1999.
144 - This used to be Johnny's Amoco service station from about 1955 to the late 60's.
158 - This used to be Rhode Island Hardware (listed at 158-160 Greenwich Ave.) in the 50's and early 60's. It then became Greenwood's Flower Shoppe from about 1964 to 1975.
174 - Salon Corsini used to be Al's Market grocery store from about the mid 40's to late 60's.
184 - This used to be The Farmers Market in the 50's and through most of the 60's. It was torn down by the late 80's after being listed as vacant for many years.
500 - Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England used to be Paris Fabric Shop from about 1971 until becoming Rack & Hanger in the early 80's.  By the mid 80's, it was Milton's Discount Clothing and later became Ski Market by 1990 for about 20 years.
545 - Located in the former Apex Plaza, L.L. Evan Restaurant opened in October 1981 and continued in operation until the early 90's.  It then became Arcito's Restaurant in late 1992 until closing in 1994 and re-opening later that year as Amici Wood Grill.  Starting in November 1995, it was Tomato Vine Restaurant, which operated until the end of 2004 before being torn down to build Lowe's.
555 - Lowe's Home Improvement Center (since 2006) was built on the site of the former Apex
Department Store, which closed in 2001 after over 35 years in business (opened in 1965).
558 - Salvation Army Family Store & Donation Center used to be a Heathkit Electronics Center store from April 1973 to the late 80's.
565 - Also located in the Apex Plaza was Old Stone Bank from about 1966 to the late 80's.
575 - This has been a Stop & Shop Supermarket since late 2008.

578 - Torn down in 2015 after being vacant for many years, this used to be the site of a Howard Johnson's restaurant from the mid 60's to the early 80's.  It was then a Ground Round restaurant during most of the 80's.  From the late 80's to mid-to-late 00's, Ah! Roma, Ocean Express, Raine's Grill and Conte's Restaurant were here.
692 - Vacant for many years, this former Sunoco station operated as Suntex Service Station from at least the 1930's until the 90's (was rebuilt in 1968 and seen below in 1990).  It was later Budlong's Full Service Center.

708 - Season's Corner Market (since 2017) and Shell Service Station used to be the location of a Texaco Service Station (Budlong's, Midland and Greenwich Ave. Texaco) from about 1950 for over 50 years until changing to Shell by the mid 00's. 1288 - Ye Old Boulvard Tavern used to be Boulevard Café from the 50's all the way into the 00's.
1330 - A plaza including People's Liquor Warehouse used to be an NHD Hardware store from 1984 until about the late 90's. The store was rebuilt after the original NHD Hardware store here (listed at 160 Veterans Memorial Drive) was destroyed by a fire in January 1981.
1346 - Dunkin' Donuts has been operating here since 1984.
1352 - This used to be Saccoccio's Inn for well over 15 years starting in February 1985. 

Harrison Avenue

188 - A personal residence is now at what was once the location of a grocery store under various names (Bassett, Austin, Mulvey) that went back to at least the 1930's into the 50's. In the 60's, it was Fanny's Variety, which sold penny candy among other items and I remember purchasing Batman trading cards there in 1966 from the original TV series!

Harrop Avenue
5 - Twin Shellfish used to be Joan's Dari Ice Cream back in the late 70's and early 80's.

Jefferson Boulevard
15  - Jefferson Mobil stated as Jefferson Blvd. Esso in about 1968. It was then converted to Jefferson Exxon in 1972 and remained as that going into the 90's (see photo from 1990).

20 - Motel 6 (since 1996) used to be a Howard Johnson's Motel from 1968 to 1995.

24 - Torn down in 2019, the former Gauchos Do Brazil used to be a Howard Johnson's Restaurant (see photo) from 1968 to about 1993. Also here during the 80's and early 90's was Sound Sations Lounge. It was then a Bickford's Family Restaurant from 1993 until 2008.  Photo credit: America's Landmark.

30 - Doherty's Ale House used to be a Red Coach Grill restaurant (see photo) from January 1971 to 1983.  It then became El Torito Restaurant until about 1990, Sirloin Saloon and then Bugaboo Creek Steak House in 1992. Photo credit: America's Landmark.

33 - Eco Fuel started as Jefferson Blvd. Atlantic in 1968 and converted to Arco in 1970 until about 1982. It then became Jefferson Blvd. Getty by 1986 until converted to BP in 2009.

36 - LaQuinta Inn & Suites started as Susse Chalet Inn from about 1985 until becoming Fairfield Inn by the early-to-mid 00's. It then became LaQuinta by 2008.
76 - Shogun Steak & Seafood used to be Norwood Inn Restaurant from 1979 to 1996. It then became Molloy's Restaurant and Bar by 1997, Norwood Country Inn by 1999 and Evelyn's Norwood Inn from 2000 until becoming Shogun before the mid 00's.
99 - Sunbelt Rentals used to be Lloyd Long Oldsmobile from 1969 until becoming Cerrone Oldsmobile during the 90's.
175 - Jefferson Boulevard Diner has been operating since about 1972.  It was originally listed at 165 Jefferson Blvd.
1150 - This has been My Bread Baking Co. since about 1970.  Also here is a thrift store that started in at least 1983 as a Sunbeam Bread Thrift Store. It later became a Wonder Bread Thrift Store as well as a thrift store for other bread and bakery products. 

1350 - This has been the long-time home of the Greenwood Inn Restaurant going all the way back to 1954.  The restaurant was listed at 44 Old Post Rd. before 1960 and was still using that address in advertisements in the 60's stating it was at the Greenwood Bridge and Curve.

Kilvert Street
86 -The former Sandwich Junction Restaurant (January 1977 to 2018) used to be the Hillsgrove Post Office (listed at 90 Kilvert St.) through the 1940's. Prior to Sandwich Junction, it was Warwick Commercial Fasteners. 
137 - Coast Line Diner used to be Red Kettle Restaurant from early 1972 to about 1979.

Lane 2
47 -This residence located in Gaspee Point used to be Allen's Variety store in the 50's and 60's.

Lambert Lind Highway

33 - The former BounceU used to be Monster Mini Golf. It had earlier been a Jo-Ann Fabrics Store.
136 - This has been a Ross-Simons Jewelers store since about 1978.

150 - The former Providence Bicycle (from about 2010 until moving to 725 Branch Ave. in Providence in 2022) used to be Color Tile going back to about 1983. It then became The Appliance Outlet by 1998 and was later Off-Track Bedding and Sleepy's in the 00's.

Masthead Drive 
1 - Chelo's Waterfront Bar & Grille (since 1996) used to be Forty Fathom Snack Bar & Lounge from 1972 to about 1978. From about 1979 to 1990, it was Down Under Waterfront Restaurant and from 1991 to 1996, it was Chart House Restaurant.

Namquid Drive (all businesses listed are located in the Governor Francis Shopping Center).

941 - Home Again Consignment Shop used to be Robert Parente furniture dealers from the mid 60's until becoming Lenart Magnovox Entertainment Center by the late 60's . It then became Doyle's Sports Center by the late 70's and Measure Up exercise salon by the early 80's until about 1990.
951 - Le Favorite Bakery used to be Persia's Barber Shop from about 1959 to 1964.  It then became Governor Francis Barber Shop until moving to Warwick Ave. in 1975.  After that it was Governors Yarns until changing to Knit N Needles by 1990 and later became Arden's Treasures.
953 -  Wheelock Insurance Agency used to be Fields & Cusick travel agency from about 1959 to the late 80's, when it became Chocolate Gems candy manufacturers into the 90's.
955 - John's Super Hair (since the mid 70's) used to be Hazel Gray Beauty Salon from about 1959 to 1964, when it became Governor Francis Beauty Salon until 1975.
957 - This used to be Marten's Women's Apparel from about 1959 to 1963 and then became Country Casuals women's clothing store from the mid 60's all the way into the 90's.

961 - The Coffee Grinder used to be Sterling Shoes (sold Stride-Rite shoes) in the 50's until moving to 1030 Warwick Ave. about 1980.  It briefly became Name Brand Shoes in the early 80's and has also been Bagels East.

963 - Mirabella's Italian Cucina was most notably Peoples Savings Bank from the late 50's to the mid 70's before moving to 1300 Warwick Ave.

981 1/2 - Dan's Music and Learning Center used to be Musicland from the mid 60's to about 1970.

Narragansett Parkway
1154 - A small grocery store at least in the late 40's and most likely earlier than that, this became Andy's IGA during the early-to-mid 50's. In the 60's, it was Fred's Variety Store and then was a Dutchland Farms convenience store in the 70's and early 80's.  It then became Rogers Cupboard and Parkway Variety during the 80's and Parkway Convenience and Deli (see photo) in the 90's until closing about the late 00's.

Nausauket Road 
8 - See 3314 West Shore Rd. below.
374 - Known as The Little Red Store, this used to be Ed's Variety in the 50's and Maria's Variety and Bill's Variety in the 60's.
478 - This used to be Green's Variety back in the 50's before becoming a news distributors office by the end of the decade. It had been Smith's Grocery in the 30's and 40's.

Naushon Avenue
30 - Knocked down in the mid 2010's, this used to be Gussie Apple-B Village Store (known for its penny candy) for many years from about the mid 60's to the mid 70's before becoming Dutchland Farms in 1976. It later became Roadside Farm & Deli Market in the mid 80's into the 90's and Tiff-Britt Antiques. Before Gussie Apple-B, this was Mack's Variety store from at least the early 50's to the mid 60's.  Photo: The building at 30 Naushon Ave. was still standing in 2011, although it appeared to be vacant. Back in the 60's and 70's, the entrance to the store was on the right side of the building.

Oakland Beach Avenue

100 - Among multiple businesses here have been John Perri & Sons sewer & drain construction from the mid 70's into the 00's, North Kingstown Cespool from the late 80's into the 00's, Cardillo's Tires from the mid-to-late 80's into the 90's. and Mar Seafood since the 90's.
141 - This used to be Lou's World of Golf driving range and miniature golf from about 1962 until making way for housing development in the late 80's,
279 - U-Haul Moving and Storage (since the early-to-mid 80's) used to be the location of George's Seafood from the early 70's to late 70's.  In the 50's and 60's, it was Warwick Marine Supply and Warwick Marine Seafood in the early 70's.
333 - This over 100-year old residence was listed as Cora's Coffee Shop from about the mid 1940's to 1963.  It operated as a restaurant for many years prior to that.
626 - Oakies convenience store (since about 1979) used to be Bayberry Farms Store during most of the 70's. It operated under several names before that, including Comella & Sons through the 50's.
661 - This used to be the longtime location of a variety store from at least the 1930's  until 1973. It was listed as Ike's Variety beginning in the 1950's.
758 - This residence on the corner of Oakland Beach and Mohawk Ave. used to be Alice On The Corner variety store from at least the 1930's to the mid-to-late 60's.
774 - Mikey's Motor Sports used to be an A & P food store from about the early 40's to the late 60's.
789 - This used to be Salk's Hardware/Department store from possibly as far back as 1917 and operating until about 1960. 

885 - Iggy's Boardwalk (since 2014) used to be Gus's Restaurant from 1924 until 1984.  Some of the many restaurants here in between included Beachcombers, Cove Bar and Grill, Tijuana Yacht Club, Club Tropics, Kahuna's on the Beach, Midway Bar & Grill, Captain Seaweed's and Marley's On The Beach (2010 to 2013).
889 - Iggy's Doughboys & Chowder House (since 1989) used to be Mrs. Gus's Doughboys & Pizza House from 1940 until 1985.
898 - Top of the Bay Restaurant (since 2008) used to be Cherrystones Restaurant from 1986 to 2007.  Prior to being renovated from a personal residence to a restaurant in 1986, this was once the home of a former RI governor (Gov. Brown) around 1900.

Old Warwick Avenue

112 - Located by Buckeye Brook, this used to be Greylawn Farms from at least 1959 until about 1992. In 1993, it became Rene's (also sold chicken products and chicken meals). It was torn down by the mid 00's.

Pace Boulevard

25 - Market Basket (since May 2021) at Bald Hill Commons Plaza used to be the location of a Sam's Club from 1994 until early 2011 and then torn down.  A new Sam's Club was then built and operated from early 2014 to early 2016.  It then became an At Home store in April 2017.  Later that year, it was announced that At Home was vacating the space after a legal dispute with Home Depot and would later relocate to 650 Bald Hill Rd. in 2018.

105 - Penske Automotive used to be a Sports Authority store from about 1994 until moving to Warwick Mall in 2009. It then became Planet Fitness and Launch Trampoline Park.

Pawtuxet Avenue

242 - Suburban Pharmacy (Warwick's last remaining independent pharmacy) has been operating at this location since August 1961.

Peck Lane
23 - Located off of Narragansett Parkway just outside the Cranston line in Pawtuxet Village, O'Rourke's Bar & Grill (since 2003 and extensively renovated in 2005) used to be Parkway Tavern from at least the 1930's until about the mid 60's.  It would become Gaspee Lounge after that until 2001.

Pilla Drive
20 - Home Outlet (since 2020) used to be a Grossman's Lumber store from November 1978 until being converted to Grossman's Mr. 2nds Bargain Outlet in May 1993.  It remained as Bargain Outlet until changing to Home Outlet after a merger in 2020.

Post Road
13 - Hunter's Service Center started in 1953 and operated all the way until 2020. It was called Hunter & Ritchie's Mobil Service in its early days. By the late 50's, it was changed to Hunter's Mobil Service until the early 60's.  Also here in the 50's until about the early 60's was Bridge Motors. It would then become Hunter's Esso Service (converted to Exxon in 1972) until the early 80's, when it became Hunter's Service Center.  From the 1930's until the early 50's, this was an automobile dealership (Fred O. Bishop) selling DeSoto, Plymouth and later Hudson cars (credit to The Bridge newspaper as well as for the below photo).

18 - The former Innisfree Body Works used to be House of Flags from about 1974 to 1988. It then became Residential Properties Ltd in the late 80's.  Going back to the 50's, it was Parkway Florist through most of the decade. In the early 60's, it was a Sunnybrook Farm store until becoming Park Beauty Salon by 1964.  It would continue as Michael's Beauty Salon shortly after that until the early 70's.  Photo: Parkway Florist and Bridge Motors in the 1950's.

40 - Over 200 years old and now a personal residence, this historic building (first-floor operated as Pawtuxet Bank in the early 1800's) used to be the Bank Café Restaurant from 1874 to 1983 and again in the early-to-mid 90's. Photo 1: Located just north of the intersection of Post Road and Narragansett Parkway in this mid-80's photo was the sign for the historic Bank Café Restaurant and an Amoco Service Station (previously Mobil) that was torn down and replaced by a group of townhouses/condominiums built in 2004. 202 - Village Green Condominiums are located on the site that was the home of the New Farm Supper Club from December 1939 (originally called The Farm Supper Club) until 1987. Jim Smith's Inn was here from December 1916 until being changed to Maple Grove Inn under new management in January 1937. 456 - The former On The Fly Gas & Convenience (now listed at 446 Post Rd.) at the Warwick Ave. intersection used to be an Atlantic service station going back as far as 1940 as Tillman's Atlantic.  It remained that way under several different names (Hogan's, B & T, Dolan's, Pat's, Jerry's) until all Atlantic stations were changed to Arco in 1970.  The station was rebuilt shortly before that time.  The station became Bicho Brothers Arco about 1971 and remained as Bicho Brothers into the 00's including a switch to Citgo by 1983.
623 - Now occupied by law offices, this used to be Tom's Superette market going back from about 1950 to about 1970, when it became a Sunnybrook Farms convenience store.  It would then become a Dairy Mart in the early-to-mid 80's into the 90's. Going back to the 1940's, it was Gustafson's Market, then Fletcher Bros. Market (early-to-mid 40's before moving down the street) and Bob's Market (mid-to-late 40's).
721 - Most recently Lakewood Ice Cream, this used to be Fletcher Bros. Market (see photo), which operated in this location from around the late 40's to the mid 80's after moving from 623 Post Road.  Sue's Dilly Dally Deli and Bread Basket would follow before it became Lakewood Fish & Chips in 1989 into the 2000's.
751 - Jammin Gears (since 2018) used to be Aldrich Service Station from about 1942 all the way until 2016. It was listed as an auto repair shop until being rebuilt in the mid 50's, when it was an Amoco (later American) station.  It then became a Getty station in the 80's and became strictly an auto repair shop by the early 90's. Photos:  Aldrich Service Center can be seen in the background as an American station in the 70's and the Getty sign and pumps can be seen in 1987.

770 - McDonald's has operated at this location since May 1982 after moving from 860 Post Road.
780 - Warwick Cinema operated in the former Warwick Plaza from March 18, 1964 (opened with the movie One Man's Way) until July 10, 1983 (closed with Raiders of the Lost Ark). The cinema was known as Movies Warwick (due to confusion with Warwick Mall Cinema) from July 1981 to July 1982 and then changed to RKO Warwick Cinema from July 1982 until closing in July 1983.  The building was later torn down in 1995. Warwick Cinema is most remembered for showing "A Sound Of Music" starring Julie Andrews for about 86 consecutive weeks in 1965 and 1966.

794 - W.T. Grant department store was here in the old Warwick Plaza from the plaza's opening in late 1958 until late 1973 or early 1974 before becoming a swimming pool store (Sun-N-Fun in October 1974 and then Cut Price Pools from March 1977 until 1993).  Photo: Warwick Cinema and W.T. 800 - Citizens Bank has been here since December 1958, first in the Warwick Plaza and then moving to its own building in 1995.  A Sears Roebuck store was also at this address in the early days of the plaza until the mid 60's.
802 - Delmar's Card and Gift shop opened here at the Warwick Plaza in the late 50's.  After an ownership change, it became The Woodbine Shoppe (also a gift shop) in October 1975 until about 1990.
804 - This used to be Park Shoe Store from 1959 to about 1969. It was also Milber Realty until the early 70's. It then became part of Thaler's Gallery of Shoes around 1973.
806 - Thaler's Gallery Of Shoes was here from March 1969 to 1979, becoming Fashion Gallery though the 80's and then Rainbow Shops in the 90's before the plaza closed in 1995.   It had earlier been Bernstein's Clothing from the late 50's to the mid 60's.
814 - Once a Woolworth department store from late 1958 to about 1965, this location became a Weintraub's Discount (Fabrics) store in August 1966 until about late 1993.
820 - Adams Drugs and then Brooks Drugs occupied this spot in the Warwick Plaza beginning in late 1958 until 1983.  It was followed by Northeast Business Forms.
822 - After a short time as Mel-Art's Restaurant starting in early 1967, Freddy's Restaurant was at this location near the corner of the Warwick Plaza from December 1968 until about 1978.  After that it was The Reef Pub starting in June 1979 and Anthony's Pub by 1981.  From the early to mid 80's, it was Mad Hatter Lounge (opened in 1983 to about 1986) and then Club Rio, an under-21 dance club from about 1987 to 1989.  It then became Full Moon Saloon in 1990 and was later Club Vibes (also under-21) in 1993 and 1994.  Earlier, Figuerette, Inc. was at this address in the early 60's and Charles Sports Car Racing in the mid 60's.
824 - This used to be a Western Auto store in the early-to-mid 60's, followed by Associates Finance (mid-to-late 60's), Warwick Aquarium (from about 1971 to 1976) and Ice Cream Factory (August 1977 to late 70's). In 1979, it became part of The Reef Pub (see 822 Post Rd. above),
826 - DeVoe Paint was at this location from the late 50's to the late 60's. It would then become Musicland (moved from Governor Francis Shopping Center) in the early-to-mid 70's until moving to Airport Rd. and Dynamic Auto Parts of Warwick from April 1975 to the mid 80's. In 1994, this location was used for a boxing gym by the Warwick Boxing Association.
828 - Starting as Loft Candies in 1959, this spot in the Warwick Plaza was a revolving door with businesses moving in and out throughout the duration of the plaza. Later businesses here included: Bay Bakery (early-to-mid 60's), Fico & Winograd Photography (mid-to-late 60's), A & D Electronics (early 70's), Sunshine Patriot (early-to-mid 70's), Fancy Persussion clothing (mid-to-late 70's), Eddie's Pizza (early 80's), Superior Pizza (March 1983 to mid 80's), the Pastry Palace (opened September 1985), John's Pizza & Pasta Plus (mid-to-late 80's), Kris & Greg Pizza (late 80's) and El Sombrero Restaurant (opened in late 1989 into the early 90's).
830 - This started as Plaza Barber Shop from the late 50's to the late 60's. It later became Ran-Dies Cleaners (early 70's), Peter Pan Cleaners (early-to-mid 70's to late 70's), Sadie's Antiques (opened in April 1980) and J & R Trains & Hobbies (early 80's to mid 80's).
832 - The long time beauty salon started out as Warwick Plaza Beauty Salon from the late 50's to mid 60's.  After changing to Warwick Curl Shoppe in 1965, it then became Curl' N Swirl Beauty Salon from July 1968 to the early 80's.  It was later Hair One Stylistics (early-to-mid 80's) and Starship Excalibur (mid-to-late 80's to early 90's).
834 - Walmart (since June 1996 and listed at 840 Post Rd.) is at the location of the former Warwick Plaza (closed in 1995) that was primarily a Big G Supermarket (from March 1963 to late 1976) and Valueland Supermarket (November 1978 to early 1995). It was also Scott's briefly in between.  Before Big G, it was a Stop & Shop from December 1958 to the early 60's.  Below: Warwick Plaza sign at about the time the plaza was torn down in 1995.

838 - Hit Or Miss fashions occupied this store in the Warwick Plaza in the 70's, followed by Auto Sound Systems in the 80's.   In 1993 and 1994, it was PJ's Party Place.  It started out as Monk's Dry Cleaners until the mid 60's and was also an art gallery in the late 60's.
860 - Dunkin Donuts (since 1991) used to be a McDonald's from May 1964 until moving to a new building down the street at the Warwick Plaza in May 1982. It then became Dandy Donuts in August 1982, Jonathan Donot in February 1984 and Mister Donut in January 1985 until 1991, when it changed to Dunkin Donuts.   Below: McDonald's shown shortly after the blizzard of 1978.

874 - The Food Chalet Restaurant has been at this location since 1972.
876 - Metro PCS used to be Domino's Pizza from the mid 80's to mid 2010's before moving to 557 Warwick Ave.  It started out as House of Muffins around 1972 and was later Stovepipe Fireplace Shop (late 70's to early 80's) and Century Finance.
885 - Warwick Gulf used to be Jo-Mac's Gulf Service Station from at least the mid 50's until the late 70's.  It then became Alcon Automotive Service and later Dairy Mart in the late 80's.
893 - Pilgrim Pharmacy operated here in the 60's until the mid 70's. In the 50''s, it was known as Aldrich Pharmacy. Several businesses were here following the pharmacy including a Dutchland Farms store (opened in 1976) in the mid-to-late 70's, Armand & Pete Shoe Repair Shop in the 80's and Red Wing Shoes in the 90's.
897 - Elizabeth of Portofino's Restaurant (since the mid-to-late 80's) used to be Conti's Restaurant from 1954 until the mid 80's. 
1072 - The former Jamaica Junction (moved to East Greenwich) was at about the location that used to be Pete's Pizzeria from the mid-to-late 50's to the early-to-mid 70's.
1092 - Family Dollar used to be Bliss Marine from about 1977 and going into the 90's.  It was also listed as E & B Discount Marine Store.  At this address going way back to 1939 was Club Sunset. It became Flynn's Tavern by the mid-to-late 40's into the 50's, Pilgrim Inn Restaurant (with the Playboy Lounge) by the late 50's until about 1964 and The Harlequin in the mid 60's.  It was then listed as vacant for many years and torn down by 1973.
1094 - Cesar Appliances used to be Gladden Paints from about 1977 and operating into the early 00's.
1101 - Enterprise Rent-A-Car (since about the late 90's) used to be George's Amoco from about the early 50's to the early 60's, when it became George's Texaco. It was then Norwood Texaco by 1965 until about 1978, when it would become Norwood Tire until the early 80's.  After being listed as Texaco Service in 1982, it was vacant going into the 90's.
1112 - Speedway Service Station (since 2015) used to be a Merit Oil Service Station from about 1960 until converting to Hess in 2000.
1141 - Cosmic Steak & Pizza (since the mid 90's after moving from 2168 Elmwood Ave.) used to be Mickey Stevens' Package Store from about 1949 until 1983.  It then became Dynamic Auto Parts.
1153 - The former Pioneer Treasures & Florals used to be Pellicano's Pioneer Market from about the late 1920's for over 60 years until the early 90's.
1160 - Pond Plaza shopping center (since about the early 90's) used to be the location of Brunswick Ten Pin Lanes from May 1960 (as Atlantic Ten Pin Lanes until the mid 60's) to about 1987.
1190 - Art In Ice used to be Johnson's Ice Co. from at least the mid 1930's until about the late 90's. It later became A-Joe's Ice Service.
1207 - This used to be a Del's Lemonade from the late 80's to early 00's.  It was also a Riccotti's Sandwich Shop (see photo) from May 1972 until 1976 (changed to 1209 Post Rd.).  The building was damaged after a bus accident in early 2016. 

1209 - This used to be Riccotti's Sandwich Shop from about 1976 to 1985.  After that, it became Driver's Seat Inc.for several years going into the 90's and then Racer's Equipment Warehouse.
1255 - Pet's World operated at this location from 1958 to 2018.
1258 - The former Lee Nails used to be Pam's Restaurant from 1960 to 1969.  It then became Stereo Tape Center and SS Engineering in the 70's, and Bed of Roses and Rose Garden Flowers, Sensational Sweets Candy and Speed Shop in the 80's.
1260 - The former Express Food Mart used to be a Sunnybrook Farms dairy store from 1965 until changing to Dairy Mart by 1982. It then became Post Road Convenience Store by the early 90's and was Express Food Mart by the early 00's.  Going back to the late 50's, a Western Auto Associate Store was at this location, followed by Kramer Canvas Products.
1265 - The former Sunny & Shears Tanning & Hair Salon used to be Norwood Service Station going back to the 1940's, becoming Norwood Sunoco in the 50's until about 1975. Also here was Norwood Service fuel oil.
1270 - This used to be Norwood Barber Shop from at least the late 50's until about 1977.  In the 80's, it was Moe's Antiques, Designer Embroidery and Hobby Makers and Beer Supply, which operated from the mid 80's into the 90's.
1272 - This area in Post Road Plaza now occupied by Mother Nature Hydroponics used to be Norwood Bakery, which operated from the early 50's until 1984.  It then became Amanda's Gifts & Favors in the mid 80's, Palm & Card Reading in the late 80's into the 90's and was later Taste of Jamaica.
1277 - Greatfull Bread Sandwich Shop (since 2016) used to be Foodland Super Market from the 50's to the mid 60's, before becoming Beef King Food Service later in the decade.  In the 70's, 80's and into the 90's, it was Warwick Highlander Center.
1278 - China Sea Restaurant (since 1966) used to be the location of Norwood Pharmacy from at least the early 50's to the mid 60's.
1279 - Pioneer Pizza (operated from 1966 to March 2018 and reopened in September 2019) used to be Norwood Dry Cleaning Village starting in the early 60's and Craddock Appliance before that.
Did you know?: There used to be a second Pioneer Pizza House. It opened in August 1971 and was located at 782 Main Street in East Greenwich in the Greenwich Shopping Center.
1310 - Torn down by 2014, this used to be a Snyder Leather store from the early-to-mid 80's until about the mid 90's when it became Wilsons Leather. It later became a temporary showroom for Balise Motors in the mid-to-late 00's.
1315 -  Torn down by the early 80's when Xtra Mart Liquors was built, this combination business and residence property used to be Norwood Beauty Shop along with Anderson Radio Sales & Service in the 50's and 60's and later became Phyllis' Antiques and then Norwood Flowers and Gifts during the 70's.
1325 - Colleen Haxton's Liquors used to be Xtra Mart Liquors from about 1981 to the early 90's. It then became Busa Wine & Spirits from the early 90's to 2015.
1335 - Now a parking lot, this used to be a self-service service station from about 1974 to 2008 and then torn down in 2011. It started as Phillips 66, then became Citgo by the late 70's, Sunoco by the early 80's and unbranded by the mid 00's.
1338 - Balise Chevrolet of Warwick (since 2006) used to be Norwood Motor Co. (later Norwood Chevrolet and Norwood Motor Group) from at least the 1930's to 2006.
1359 - Gregg's Restaurant (since 1970) was built and opened here in April 1969 as the short-lived Quarterback Club Restaurant, featuring the Fullback Burger. Photo 1:  The much-remembered giant football that was part of the Quarterback Club Restaurant can be seen here.  Photo 2: Gregg's Restaurant as it looked in its earlier days.

1380 - Located behind Nyanza, this used to be Little Hofbrau restaurant and tavern (originally called Joe's Tavern) from about 1947 to 1977.
1400 - Balise Toyota occupies the location of the Nyanza Department Store, which operated in the prior location of Natco Products Corporation (see photo) from March 1961 to September 1975. After closing, it was turned into Village Mall, which opened in June 1976.  The short-lived indoor mall included restaurants such as Charity's Hamburgers, Narragansett Pier, Mama's Italian Kitchen, Ollie's Omelets, Parthenon, Sub-Sider and Village Mall Sea Shell among its 95 tenants.  It also included a Kool Korner Ice Cream shop, House of Fortune, Kansas City Stockyard Market (essentially a second Big Penny Market - see Tidewater Dr. below), Bookbinders', Rhode Island Stereo, Atlantis Waterbeds, Village Clocks, Dave Sweet's Novel Team Sports, Canterbury Shoppe, Unique Boutique, Rhyme Records, Frontier Shop, Match Point, The Jewelry Closet and an area of the mall known as Clothing Commons.  In late 1977, the mall site was purchased by Monet Jewelers Manufacturers.  Monet would then operate here well into the 90's.

1527 - Gold & Silver Jewelry Outlet used to be Atlantis Waterbeds from about 1977 to 1986.  It then became Gift Emporium and was Yazidjian Jewelers by the early 90's.  By the early 00's, it was Warwick Picture Frame. Earlier at this location from the early 60's to the mid 70's was a Cumberland Farms Dairy Store.
1535 - My Favorite Muffin & Bagel Café (since 1996) along with Sukhy's Threading used to be Whalley's Pharmacy from about the mid 50's to mid 90's.
1540 - This used to be May's Fish & Chips in the late 50's until the early-to-mid 60's.
1565 - Bess Eaton Donuts operated at this location from the early 60's all the way into the 90's. It had previously been Juniors Superette grocery in the late 50's.
1579 -This former home was remodeled into a business office for Crestline Builders in 1974. It has primarily been the home of service businesses such as Liberty Mortgage, Applied Security and SOS Alarms. However, for a short time, it was the location of Van Scoy Diamond Mine (opened in late 1991) and then Turchetta's Ristorante (opened in late 1992).

1590 - Gilmore Furniture has operated at this location going all the way back to the early 1960's!  Also here is Joseph David Big and Tall (since about 2011).

1599 - Grid Iron Ale House Grill (since 2012) was originally a Burger Castle Systems restaurant from 1969 to 1971.  It then became an Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips Restaurant until about late 1979.   A short-lived restaurant called Neptune's Pier was here for a few months in 1980 before being turned into as a Curtis Mathes electronic store by November of that year.  It would then become an Arby's Roast Beef restaurant in July 1982 until the late 80's. It was also Solis Japanese Steak House from early 1991 to the early 00's and Prata's Bar and Grill from 2003 to 2012.
1600 - Valvoline Instant Oil Change (since June 1990) is at the location that used to be Pam's Restaurant from about 1969 to 1987.
1678 - Dunkin' Donuts has been operating at this location since June 1965.
1689 - The former Ann & Hope Curtain & Bath Outlet (2001 to 2020) used to be an Ann & Hope department store from October 1962 to 2001.  As of 2023, the property is being transformed into a U-Haul facility.  Adjacent to Ann & Hope (connected inside by the food/snack bar area known for its pizza) was a Stop & Shop supermarket until about 1980. There was also a pharmacy (Pharmacy Services) here.  Lou's Golf Range driving range had previously occupied this location from 1946 until moving to Oakland Beach Ave. when Ann & Hope was built in 1962.
1694 - RI Golf Carts used to be Massasoit Realty from the 50's until about 1979. It was often shared with another business, including Diane's Hair Fashions in the 70's.  It then became A & L Auto Parts all the way through the 80's and Post Road Auto Parts into the 90's. By the early 00's. it was Leachel Fence Systems and was later Ocean State Fence and The Roof Doctor.
1724 - Chief's Discount Jewelry (since about 1973) used to be McCabe's Surplus Bakery Co. in the late 60's and early 70's.
1756 - Burger King (since about 1973) opened in August 1970 as Col. Sanders' Sandwich Center (Kentucky Roast Beef).
1759 - The former Walt's Roast Beef (closed in late 2023) used to be a Burger Chef restaurant from September 1960 until being converted to a Hardee's Restaurant in April 1984. It became Rocky Point Chowder House in 1985 until about the mid 00's and was later Starbucks Coffee until 2009. It was later Cilantro Mexican Grill. 1775 - Fun House Ice Cream Shoppe (since 2014) used to be Honey Dew Donuts from 1997 (see photo) to about 2012.

1776 - Neon Marketplace (since late 2021) used to the location of Marley Motors from about 1946 until late 1966 and a Mobil service station (Patriot Service Center) from about 1967 to 2014. Photo: Patriot Service Center and Burger King in 1990.


1795 - Torn down in 2023, the former Ozzi's Burger Bar used to be a Carvel Ice Cream store for just over 30 years starting in late 1972. In between, it was Ozzi's Steakburgers (opened in 2008) and then The Office Kitchen & Bar (opened in 2012).  Before Carvel, this was originally Jack's Catch Restaurant around the late 60's and early 70's. 1800 (2b) - Cali For Nails in the Airport Plaza used to be Ladd's Music Center from 1985 to 2003.  Before that, it was American Handicraft from the early-to-mid 70's to early 80's and then Toti's Toys.
1800 (3) - Rent-A-Center (since the early-to-mid 80's) used to be A & L Auto Parts from the early-to-mid 70's to the late 70's. In between, it was Name Brand Merchandise.
1800 (9) - This started as Mr. G's Fashions from November 1970 until about 1976. It later became used for additional space by The Clothing Center in 1978. It then became DG's Arcade from about 1981 to 1990, when it moved to 1085 Bald Hill Rd.
1800 (11) - This used to be Mayfair Lounge in the Airport Plaza from the early 70's (moved from 1802 Post Rd.)  It then became Kojac's Restaurant and Pub (also called Kojac's Electric Avenue) in the early 80's until about 1990.
1800 (12) - Dollar Tree in the Airport Plaza used to be Sounds Great sound systems and electronics store from about 1980 to the late 80's.  Sounds Great took over what had been two stores, including Brodsky's Discount Supermart (early-to-mid 70's). It became a computer mall in the early 90's and was later Leather Living in the 00's to the early-to-mid 2010's.
1800 (22) - T-Mobile in the Airport Plaza used to be Van Scoy Diamond Mine from the late 70's into the 90's. It later became a Radio Shack store.
1802-1 (old) moved to 1800 (24) - Before being torn down to make way for the Airport Plaza in the early 70's, this was the Chicken Coop restaurant in the mid 60s until 1967 before becoming Walt's Roast Beef later in 1967. Walt's would then move to the new plaza in suite 24 for about 45 years until moving to 1759 Post Road.

1802-2 (old) moved to 1800 (11) - Before being torn down to make way for the Airport Plaza in the early 70's, this was the Mayfair Lounge going back to the 50's (as Topp's Mayfair).  Mayfair also moved to the new plaza in suite 11 (see above).  Before Mayfair, this was Blue Moon restaurant going back to the 1930's and into the 50's.
1802 - IHOP Restaurant (since 2010) used to be a James H. McManus Eating Place restaurant from 1977 to about 1997. In between, it was Bickford's Family Restaurant from 1999 to 2009.
1880 - Now an empty lot, this used to be the popular Valle's Steak House from October 1966 until May 1986, when it became Airfield Restaurant until September 1986.  The building was later used as a workshop and then torn down in 1999. Airport Valet was later in this location. 

1889 - Now multiple businesses, this used to be Fain's Floor Covering from about 1966 and operating into the 90's.
1901 -  Shannon View Inn (since the mid 80's) used to be Kelly's Lark Inn restaurant from at least the late 50's until becoming Saccoccio's Inn from about 1960 until closing in November 1983 (reopened at 1352 Greenwich Ave. in February 1985).

1910 - The former Atwood Grill (opened in 2002 and torn down in 2016 after being closed for several years) used to be a Rustler Steak House, which opened in late 1974 and may have just barely made it to 1980, when it became Bonanza Steak House in June of that year.  It later became Bentley's Bar & Grill in 1983, Monterey Restaurant in the mid-to-late 80's and Blue Marlin Grille in 1998.  Photo: A great photo of Rustler and Al's Pitch & Putt signs from a recent City of Warwick calendar.

1922 - This used to be Al's Pitch & Putt golf course from at least the late 1930's until 1984 (was listed at 1910 Post Road until the 50's).
1927 - Santander Bank (since 2014) used to be a Hospital Trust National Bank branch location from June 1962 to 1997 when it became BankBoston until 1999.  It was then Sovereign Bank from 1999 to 2014 .
1940 - Comfort Inn was built here in 1984 and is still operating here today.

1946 - This has been a Bertucci's Brick Oven Pizza & Pasta Restaurant since 1990.
1951 - Wendy's Restaurant (since late 1982) used to be the location of the Phillips Piano and Organ Studios in the 60's and 70's. Even before that in the 50's, it was King Charcoal Steak House and later Ever Seal Home Corp Improvement Products. Wendy's can be seen in its earlier days in the Texaco photo below from 1986, although it did not look much different than it did 35 years later in 2021. By 2022, the restaurant had changed to the current Wendy's signage.
1960 - Now utilized for airport parking (Red Beam Garage C) since the early-to-mid 90's, this used to be the location of Airway 32 Lanes (called Airway Alleys in the late 50's). In June 1984, it became a Chuck E, Cheese Restaurant (while keeping 12 bowling lanes) until moving to Bald Hill Plaza in the fall of 1990.
1965 - Hillsgrove Servicenter has incredibly been in operation since 1936.  Photo 1: Hillsgrove Servicenter operating as a Texaco station around 1986 along with Wendy's Restaurant next door.

2000 -  T.F. Green Airport has been here since relocating from its original terminal building on Airport Rd in 1961.  The terminal building underwent massive renovations in 1995 and 1996 and was renamed the Bruce Sundlun Terminal Building.  Below: View of T.F. 2003 - Sunoco (formerly Exxon) is at the location that used to be Mary's Restaurant and Fountain from 1950 to 1960 and Lee's Cathay Terrace Restaurant from 1960 until moving up the street to 2099 Post Rd. in 1970.  It then became Gantry's Restaurant from 1971 to 1981, Ninety-Five House Restaurant from 1981 to about 1983 and Great Oak X Family Restaurant from 1984 to 1985 before being rebuilt into Ray's Exxon by 1987. The station switched to Sunoco in 2009 and was rebuilt shortly after.
2011 - Rhode Island Baseball Institute (since 2002) used to be Furniture Warehouse Gallery from 1972 to about 1991.

2025 - This used to be an Atlantic service station from about 1950 (primarily as Airport Atlantic) until converted to Airport Arco in 1970. It became Sherer's Arco by 1978 and then operated as a Shell service station (Airport Shell and later East Side Shell) from 1985 until 2018.
2081 - Raddison Hotel (since 1994) used to be Warwick Motor Inn (opened in November 1959), then called Rhode Island Yankee Motor Inn (see postcard below) from 1964 until 1974, when it became The Quality Inn.  In June 1977, it was again being called R. I. Yankee Motor Inn.  By early 1978, it would be called Rhode Island Inn until 1989, when it was renamed Johnson & Wales Airport Inn. 

2082 - Torn down in 2009, this was a combination restaurant and motel that opened in the mid 60's as Rob Roy Restaurant & Lounge and Congress Airport Motor Lodge (later shortened to Airport Motor Lodge). By 1970, the motel was changed to Carlton House of Providence and around 1971, the name of both was consolidated into Carlton House Motor Inn & Restaurant (included the Carlton Room).  In 1978, Carlton House was purchased by Johnson & Wales College and the motel was used as a dormitory for the next ten years.  In 1988, it was converted back to a motel that was used to train students, and then converted back to a dormitory in 1989 as Johnson & Wales Airport Center East (and Oak Room).  The property was purchased by the Rhode Island Airport Corporation in 2002 for eventual airport expansion and vacated within a couple of years before being torn down. 2099 - The current Tavolo Wine Bar & Tuscan Grille (since 2019) and the former Legal Sea Foods Restaurant (1996 to 2018) used to be Lee's Cathay Terrace (built in 1970 after moving from 2003 Post Rd).  After a tragic shooting here in June 1978, it changed to Lee's China Trade Restaurant in December 1980 until the restaurant was purchased by Johnson & Wales College in late 1986.  It was reopened as J. 2100 - The Hampton Inn hotel (since 2000) was the site of the Sholes Hillsgrove Country Club roller skating rink from 1938 to 1999.  Photo: Sholes Hillsgrove Country Club.

22191 - Healthtrax Fitness & Wellness (since 1998) started as Playoff Racquetball Club from June 1980 to early 1986.  It then briefly became Westminister Athletic Club at Warwick and then changed to New England Health & Racquet from 1986 to 1998.
2225 - Chelo's Hometown Bar & Grille has operated here since 1984.
2245 - Now an empty lot, this used to be the site of the popular Great House Restaurant from June 1948 (as Johnson's Great House) until 1998 (it was previously The Elmcroft Restaurant from about 1923 to 1948).  From 1964 to the end, a train station (Pontiac Train Station) was attached to the restaurant and used as the bar. The building was used for firefighting training after the restaurant closed and then was destroyed by a fire in late 2002, just a few weeks before its scheduled demolition. 2282 - The Green Airport Cell Phone Waiting Lot (since 2012) used to be the location of the Redwood Lodge Motel from late 1961 unril closing in 2000.
2296 - Taylor Rental (since 1969) used to be Dollar Super Market from about the late 40's (earlier Shanfield's Dollar Super Market) to 1964 (moved to 2312 Post Rd.). It then became Arctic Tire of Warwick in the mid-to-late 60's.
2299 - Tavern 12 Restaurant (since 2006) used to be Lamplighter II nightclub from 1978 to the early 80's.  From the mid-to-late 80's, it was Kipling's Restaurant, becoming Challenges Ultimate Sports Pub from the late 80's to the early-to-mid 90's. From there until the mid 00's, it was Brew Masters, Brew City and Rebar Grill.
2312 - Now part of Cap City, this used to be Henry Boute TV from about 1960 until becoming Dollar Market (moved from 2296 Post Rd.) by 1965 until about 1972.  It was later Katz'n Jammer restaurant by 1976, Kempo Karate by 1979, Christi Crafts by 1980 and listed as vacant by 1982 into the 90's.
2318 - Amazing Intimate Essentials used to be Stork Pharmacy from at least the early 50's to the early 70's. It then became Walker Electric by 1973, Airport Book Shop by 1979 and Video Expo & Magazine Center by 1991 into the 00's, before becoming Amazing.net by the mid-to-late 00's.
2329 - Thrifty Rent-A-Car (since 1971) used to be Red House Beauty Salon in the late 60's to about 1970.
2342 - The area now used for parking, this used to be Cappelli's Restaurant (originally Cappelli's Pizza) from about 1958 all the way until 2002. Earlier here in the 1950's were Brownie's Grille, Conti's Restaurant (later at 897 Post Rd.) and a barber shop.
2457 - Builders Surplus (since 2012) used to be Warwick Lumber & Supply Co. from at least the 50's until the early 90's.  It was also Pre-Amble Consignments in the late 90's and later used as a warehouse for New England Institute of Technology.
2561 - Torn down several years ago, this used to be Stan's Esso Service Station from the late 50's into the 80's.  As was the case with all Esso stations, it received a name change to Exxon in 1972.  The station became a Citgo in the late 80's and was unbranded by 1990.  Photo 1: This former Esso/Exxon and Citgo station was selling unbranded gasoline in this 1990 photo. Photo 2: Lots of signage is displayed at this station in 1986 while still operating as Exxon.

2563 - House of Glass (since 1961) used to be John Corsi & Sons construction in the rear of the building from 1951 to 1961 and a residence in the front. 
2669 - Greenwood Credit Union has been in operation here since 1948. It was originally listed at 2673 Post Rd.
2679 (also at 2681) - This used to be Edward's Variety Store from about 1942 to 1967. In 1970, it was a Dutchland Farms Dairy Store, which was later at 2699 Post Rd.(now Dan's Convenience Store) by 1977.
2683 - This was a barber shop that went back to at least 1940. It became Greenwood Barber Shop from the 50's until about 1971 and was no longer listed after 1977.
2685 - This used to be The Maridee Shop in the late 50's until about 1965. It later became The Coffee Shop restaurant by 1967, Bertha's Beauty Shop by 1969, Kent Stripping's storage area by 1975 and no longer listed after 1977.
2687 - This used to be Herb's Amoco/American Auto Body service station in the 50's until about 1972.  By 1973 until 1976, it was Kent Stripping and then no longer listed.
2700 -  Torn down by 2004, this used to be Warwick Ford in the 60's through 1979 when it became Paul Bailey Ford (see photo) until the early 00's.   In the 50's, it was Baker Ford and earlier Baker-Winter.  Photo credit: Grew Up In Rhode Island.

2711 - Bill's Towing & Repairs used to be Greenwood Tire service station in the 50's until becoming Walt's Atlantic by 1965 (converted to Walt's Arco in 1970). It became Ronnie's Arco by 1980 and Ronnie's of Warwick by 1983 until the early-to-mid 2010's.
2720 - AutoZone used to be Kinney Shoes from at least the late 50's until about 1982.  It then became ADAP Discount Auto Parts.
2725 - Greenwood Liquor Center has been here for over 60 years since the 1950's. Earlier here in the 1940's was Greenwood Grocery & Market, which was renamed to McLaren's Market by the early 1950's.
2736 - The former R.I. Renal Institute (late 70's until about the late 00's) used to be a Robert Hall clothing store from at least the late 50's until the mid 70's.
2739- Pam's Pizza (earlier at 2737 Post Rd. in the 80's) used to be a Cumberland Farms store from about 1971 to 1987.
2756 - The Kent Center (since 2007) was built on the location that used to be a First National (Finast)Supermarket from at least 1957 to August 1980 after moving from 2759 Post Rd.  It then became McKeever's IGA in December 1980 until about 2005.
2757 - Domino's Pizza used to be a Friendly's Restaurant from about 1970 all the way into the early 00's.
2761 - This used to be Riley's Spa variety store from about 1940 and going well into the 50's. It then became Greenwood Pharmacy by the late 50's to the mid 60's and Greenwood Spa variety store until about 1970 before being torn down when Friendly's was built.
2763 - Pier Pizza used to be a Sherwin Williams paint store from the early 60's to mid 80's. It then became United Video, which operated here into the 90's.
2790 (CVS) - CVS Pharmacy has been here since 1983. It was earlier listed at 2796 Post Rd.
2790 - This used to be the location of a Texaco service station from about 1965 to 1972. It was later The Carpet House by 1976. It was then the address of a fish restaurant/market under various names including King Neptune (late 70's), Ocean Fresh Seafood (early 80's), Capt'n Mac's (opened in 1983), Quality Fresh Seafood (mid 80's) and Jack's Catch (late 80's).
2792 - This used to be Riccotti's Sandwich Shop from 1977 into the 00's. Before that, it was Homecraft Builders in 1975 and Braggin Wagin in 1976.
2794 - This used to be Pink Lady Beauty Salon in the late 70's and Garofalo Fruit Village in the early 80's. It then became Maytag Coin Laundry from 1983 and going into the 00's.

2980 - Residential property is now located at the former site of Peter Pots Flowers from about 1970 to the early 00's and torn down later that decade.  In the 60's, this was an Esso service station.  Photo: Peter Pots Flowers from the mid 70's.

3112 - From at least the 40's and into the 50's, this was the site of Apponaug Diner.
3126 - The former Roger Williams Auto Sales used to be Williams Corner Garage (later Williams Corner Dodge) from about 1924 and going all the way into the 1990's.  It was later JRL car dealers.
3134 - The former Mann Chemical used to be G.M. Gannon Chemical starting in about 1976 (previously at 1 Division Rd. East Greenwich) and then operated into the 90's. It later became Chemical Transport Services.

3157 - Known for their fish & chips served on Fridays, this used to be Apponaug Fish Market from at least the mid 1940's to the early 90's. It then became Flowers Express.
3245 - This used to be Tyrus Sunoco Station from at least 1942 until about 1965. From then until closing around 1972, it remained a Sunoco station under a few different names (Stan's, Watson's, DeRosa and Apponaug Sunoco). 3287 - The former Apponaug Printing (from about 1980 to the mid 00's) used to be Apponaug Bakery from the early part of the 1900's until about 1959. It then became Ranaldi Bros. Bakery from the early 60's to late 70's. Before 1940, this address was listed as 272 Main.
3292 - The former Vinnie's Kitchen used to be Town Pizza Palace from about 1970 to 1990. Later businesses here have included Brewed Awakenings, The Recovery Place Café, First Impressions, Tebeca Jewelers, Borelli's Bakery and Vito's Bakery.
3293 - The former Carol's Country Corner Gift Shop used to be an A& P Grocery Store in the 1930's and operating into the early 50's. It later became a King's 5 and 10 cent store in the 50's and was Al's Barber Shop (along with Judy's Beauty Salon for part of the time) from about 1960 to 1977, when it became Joe's Hair Salon. In the early 80's, it was Kingsbury Assoc. and then Debbie's Efficient Bookkeeping.
3297 - The former Wallflower Pottery used to be the location of Apponaug Pharmacy from the early part of the 1900's until the early 60's when the name was changed to Morin's Pharmacy. It was then Morin's variety store by 1967 until 1977.  After that, it was Allen Organs until becoming Marble Organ around 1983 for the rest of the decade. It was later PC Help Computers and ARC Electronics. Before 1940, this address was listed as 256 Main.
3300 - This used to be I.M. Gan Super Market in the late 50's until 1963 after originally being listed at 223 Main, which was changed to 3310 Post Rd. in 1940. It was then listed at 3304-06 Post Rd. in the late 40's and early 50's. After I.M.Gan (called Gan & Ruggeri in last years), this became Golden Eagle Coin & Antique and then Harry's Shoe Store from about 1968 to 1982. After that it was Video Paradise for the rest of the 80's.
3301 - Cao Peng BBQ (since 2017) used to be Father & Son Café for about 65 years until 1980.  It then became Rumpelstiltskin's Pub until 1987 (renamed as Tymes Restaurant). Other restaurants here included the Good Fortune Chinese restaurant (late 80's into the 00's) and Eastern Star Restaurant.
3305 - Before being torn down about 1963, this used to be a First National grocery store in the 1930's and 40's. It later became an IGA Market in the 50's and Hank's Fruit Store in the early 60's.
3314 - This used to be a Mister Donut at Apponaug Four Corners from late 1976 until about 1995. It then became Coffee Cup Cafe until shortly before being torn down in 1997 to make way for Walgreens.  Going back to November 1956, it became Prudential Blue Ribbon Stamp Redemption Center and Premium Store and then New England Trading Stamp Co. by 1959.
3316 - This used to be S & H Drug from the 1930's until about 1952 when it became S & S Drugs until moving diagonally across Apponaug Four Corners to 1 Centerville Road in 1960.  This would later become Bargain Tire Centers by 1972.

3317 - This used to be the famed Apponaug Hotel, which operated here for somewhere in the vicinity of one hundred years.  The hotel was torn down in January 1963 to make way for the service station listed below at 3319 Post Rd.

3319 - Pawtucket Credit Union was built at the location of Apponaug Shell from about 1972 to the mid 00's.
3320 - The land that is now used for parking for Walgreens used to be a Dutchland Farms convenience store in the I.M. Gan building (torn down in 1997) starting in the late 60's before becoming Dairy Mart in the early 80's into the 90's.
3327 - This used to be Carl's Gulf service station by the late 1940's. It then became Barbour Gulf in the early 50's until about 1978 when it changed to Apponaug Gulf.  It would change to Warwick Gulf in the 90's until closing in 2012. The station was torn down in 2015 to build a new Cumberland Farms convenience store/service station that is listed at 3335 Post Rd.

3330 - Also now used as a Walgreens parking lot, this was the long time home of I.M.Gan Liquors (now on Warwick Ave.) since at least the mid-to-late 60's to the 90's at this location before construction for Walgreens began in 1997.  It was earlier at 3310/3312 Post Rd. going back to the early 40's. 3335 - This used to be Royal Char Broil Restaurant from the early 60's to about 1971. It then became a New York System restaurant all the way into the 00's. It was later PieZoni's Pizza and was torn down in 2015 to build a new Cumberland Farms.
3349 - Warwick Cleansers has been at this location since all the way back to at least 1938.
3351 - Built in 1710, this used to be Central Café Restaurant from about 1960 until 1987. In the 50's, it was Pat's Spaghetti House.
3377 - PieZoni's Pizza used to be a Cumberland Farms store from about 1977 until moving to 3335 Post Rd. in 2015.

3815 - This used to be Cowesett Mobil (earlier Merigold's Mobil) from about 1940 all the way to the mid-to-late 80's.
3830 - HarborOne Bank (previously Coastway Bank) used to be the location of Excellent Pizza of Warwick from the May 1982 to the early-to-mid 00's.  It started as Dari-Delite Ice Cream from the mid 60's to late 60's and later became Hansel and Gretel (around 1969-1970), Marion's Restaurant (early 70's to mid-to-late 70's) and Famous Pizza (from about 1979 to 1982).
3844 - Bayview Pharmacy used to be a 7-Eleven convenience store from about 1972 to 2010.  
3854 - The Shanty Restaurant (since 2014) used to be Ward's Publick House from 1997 to 2014.  Going way back, it was Post Road Grille from around 1940 until the 50's, when it became Young's Steak House until the early 70's. From there, it was several different names, including The Office (early 70's to mid-to-late 70's), His & Her Lounge (opened in April 1977), Auger's Lounge (late 70's to early 80's), Crestwood Tavern (early 80's to mid 80's) and Qwacker's Restaurant.(mid 80's to mid 90's).
4552 - Irving Oil used to be a Jenney service station from at least 1940 until about 1969. It then became Hodor's Citgo from 1969 to 1993 and was later Ocean Food Mart by the 00's.

4654 - Although just over the Warwick line into East Greenwich, this was an Esso (converted to Exxon in 1972) service station from at least the 50's (as Slim's Esso) through the mid-80's and an auto repair garage for about the next 30 years.  After remodeling, it became Huck's Filling Station restaurant in 2019. Photo: Other than Exxon replacing Esso, this station (Arvidson's) in 1985 is still looking just how an Esso station would have looked in the late 60's. Just a few months later, the station would no longer sell gasoline.





Quaker Lane

10 - This used to be a Pizza Hut from late 1978 to about 2020.
300 - Christmas Tree Shop operated at Cowesett Corners Shopping Center from September 1988 until closing almost 35 years later on July 30, 2023 after the company liquidated all of its stores.

300 - Now broken into four stores (Furniture Depot, the former Babies "R" Us from 1998 to 2018, the former A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts from 1998 to 2019, and the former Party City/iParty) and located next to the former Christmas Tree Shop, this building used to be a Builders Square home improvement store from 1991 to 1993 and a Bradlees Department Store from 1994 to 1996.

300 - Stop & Shop Supermarket opened here at Cowesett Corners Shopping Center in 1987.

300 - Petco (since about 2010 after moving from 1400 Bald Hill Rd.) used to be Fabric Shop for over 15 years going back to 1987.

300 (19)- The former Moe's Southwest Grill (December 2014 until about 2021) at Cowesett Corners Shopping Center used to be a Radio Shack electronics store.

300 - Applebee's Grill and Bar opened here at Cowesett Corners Shopping Center in about 1989.

300 - Five Guys (since about 2010) used to be Mrs. Powell's Cinnamon Rolls starting about 1987. It later became Cinnamon Cafe. 

510 - Lowe's Home Improvement (since 2003) was built at the location of the Warwick Musical Theatre, which opened in 1954 in a circus-style tent and moved to a 3,300-seat permanent structure in 1967 until closing in 1999 (torn down in 2002).

549 - Just over the line into West Warwick, House of Liquors used to be the popular Mama Chiello's Restaurant from 1978 to 1993 after moving from 79 Duke St. in East Greenwich.

600 - This used to be an Old Stone Bank from 1978 to 1994, although from about 1983 to 1988, only the ATM was open. It then became Chartway Federal Credit Union from 1997 to about 2012.

870 - Route 2 Mitsubishi used to be Tarbox Hyundai (moved to 3665 Quaker Lane in 2017 after over 10 years here). Prior to that, it was Yankee Motors in the 70's and Century Mitsubishi in the 80's into the 90's. It then became Hurd Mitsubishi by 1993 and Ocean Mitsubishi by 1998.

926 - Wendy's Restaurant (since about the mid 90's) is at the location that used to be Sirloin Pit Restaurant from about 1977 to 1986. By the early 90's, it was The Pepper Mill Restaurant.

Rhode Island Mall (650 Bald Hill Road - formerly Midland Mall from October 1967 to 1985 and operated as an indoor mall until becoming entirely outdoor in 2011 and now known as Midland Commons).
100 - Sears department store, one of the mall's two original anchors along with Shepard's, and the first store to open (in January 1967) had just celebrated its 50th anniversary here when it became victim to another round of Sears' store closings in June 2017 and closed three months later.  At Home (since 2018) and Raymour & Flanigan (since 2019) now occupy the space of the former Sears.
Did you know?: The name of the Midland Mall listed in the newspapers as construction had started in 1965 was actually Mid-State Mall. It was then called Midland Mall during 1966.

Note: Units 101-199 were located on the lower level of the mall.

104 - This used to be Docktor Pet Center from February 1969 into the 90's.

110 - This used to be Russell Stover Candies from the early days of the mall until the early 80's. It then became Merle Norman Cosmetics, which operated here into the 90's. After that it became a Dollar Tree store.

112 - This used to be Midland Gift House and later became Card America during the 80's into the 90's.

114 - This was the long-time home of Stride Rite Junior Bootery (Junior Bootery before 1973).

116 - This used to be Sportique women's clothing store until being split up into units 116a and 116b.

116a - This started as Stylish Corner and then became Talking Plants of Midland Mall by 1976, House of Pewter by 1980 and The Earring Tree.  

116b - This was the long-time home of Wicks N'Sticks.

118 - This used to be Frederick's Of Hollywood from about 1974 and operating into the 00's. It was earlier R.I. Picture Frame.
120 - This used to be a T.W. Rounds leather goods store from 1967 until the late 80's, when it became Just Shirts into the 90's.

122 - This used to be Tie Shop and later called Tie Rack

124 - This used to be Bride's Showcase from 1967 until closing at the end of 1993 (moved to Johnston).

126 - This was the long-time home of Parklane Hosiery Stores.

128 - This used to be Uniform Den and then became Pipe Den by 1986.

130 - This used to be Beauty Nest and then became Mastercuts by the late 80's.

136 - This used to be La Fan Tasis gifts and then became Replique Gems.  After that it became an Aladdin's Castle arcade from about 1975 into the early 90's. It then moved upstairs to unit 268 until later in the decade.

140 (originally unit 138) - This started as Roger Williams Savings Bank in 1967 until becoming Old Colony Cooperative Bank by 1971. It later became Bank of New England and then Citizens Bank.

142 - This used to be Mother To Be maternity fashions and then became Mother Care and later Motherhood Maternity. 

144 - This used to be Danceware by Parlane starting about 1970 and then became Natural Cosmetics by 1974. By 1977, it had become a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop, which operated all the way into the 90's.

146 - This used to be Caffe Samarca restaurant until becoming Flower Pot and then Things Remembered gift shop from about 1974 into the 90's.

148 - This used to be Tiffany Wig Imports and then became Rings n'Things and Intrigue Fine Jewelry.

150 - This used to be August Max Woman in the 90's.

152 - This used to be Caren Charles clothing from about 1986 to the 00's. It was earlier Baker's Shoes going back to the early days of the mall. 

154 - Kay Jewelers operated at the mall from 1967 to about 2008.

156 - This used to be Thayer McNeil (later Florsheim) Shoes.  Also here was Petite Sophisticate.
164 - This used to be Midland Cinema from the early days of the mall until 1984. It was later listed as Midland Travel (previouly listed at unit 236).
168 - This used to be The Weathervane women's clothing store from the late 60's into the 90's.

170 - This used to be Tilden Thurber jewelry and then became Dejaiz men's clothing into the 90's.

172 - This used to be The Fabric Tree and then Newport Fabrics. By 1986, it was Lauriat's Books, which operated into the 90's.

174 - This used to be Dean Ashley Ltd. Gift Shop and then became Wharton Ltd. Gift Shop. After briefly being B & B Sports, it became Foxmoor women's apparel in the 80's and later OakTree in the 90's.

180 - This used to be Gantos clothing in the 90's.

182 (later listed as 184) - This used to be a Cherry & Webb (later Cherry, Webb & Touraine) clothing store from 1967 to 2000.

182 - This was Original Cookie Co. in the early 90's. It later became Mr. B's Coffee Cafe.

188 - This used to be Foxmoor Casuals and after changing to unit 174, this became Stuart's in the 80's into the 90's.

190 - This used to be Boboli Boutique and later Underground Camera.
192 - This used to be Suzy's Boutique and then became The Fashion House by 1974. It was later Shelley's Tall Girls and GNC. 

194 - This used to be Jack's Store (shoes) and then Corbet's Shoes by the mid 70's and then Don Dee Shoes by the late 70's. By the 90's it had become a Lechter's Housewares store.

198 - This used to be Ormond Shops (women's clothing) from 1967 to late 1994.

200 - The second anchor of the mall was originally Shepard's Department Store from 1967 to 1973.  G. Fox would take over this spot in 1977 until being changed to Filene's in 1993 after a merger between the two companies.  Filene's closed this store in 1997 shortly before completing a major renovation of their store in nearby Warwick Mall.  This store was torn down in 2000 to build a new Wal-Mart.

Note: Units 201-299 were located on the upper level of the mall.

202 - This used to be Rhode Island Hospital Trust bank from 1967 to about the early 80's. The area was then turned into a food court in 1984 and unit 202 became Sbarro's Pizza.

204 - This used to be The Messenger (religious books) and then The Bible House. Later part of the food court, this unit number became Hot Dog Trolley and later became a second Newport Creamery in the mall.
208 - This used to be Stanley Green's Restaurant from the late 60's to the late 70's. Unit 208 later became Something Scrumptious Restaurant in the mid 80's as part of the food court and The Pretzel King from the mid-to-late 80's into the 90's.
210 - This was the long-time home of CVS Pharmacy.

212 - This used to be Now Shop gift shop before becoming Impulse Electronics store in the early 70's and then Just Pants in the 80's into the 90's.

214 - This started as Wayland Bakery and then became Kings Row Fireplace Shop. After that it was The House Works and Canary & Elephant Gift Shop.

216 - This started as Tobaccoland and was changed to The Pipe Den until the mid 80's. It then became Benition Clothing and later Saturday Matinee.

218 - This used to be Midland Records from the late 60's into the 90's.

222 - This used to be The Safari House boutique and became Tazi's Two gift shop in the 80's into the 90's.

224 - This started as Midland Barbers and then became Hair Salon and a Regis Beauty Salon.

228 - This started as Shepard Company from 1967 to 1973. During the 80's and into the 90's at unit 228 was Nature Food Center (earlier listed at unit 234).
230 - This used to be Midland Mall Cafeteria from November 1968 until the late 70's, when it became The Pewter Pot.  It was then Burgundy's tavern by 1987 and Lenscrafters from about 1988 all the way until the inside of the mall's closing in May 2011.

232 - This used to be Raymond's Ltd. (was also listed at unit 236) and was later The Factory (iron-on t-shirts), Citcorp Homeowners and then Gingiss formal wear into the 90's.
234 - This used to be Nature Food Center from the late 60's to late 70's (later at 228 Rhode Island Mall) and then Papa Gino's Restaurant from the late 70's to mid 90's.

236 - This became Midland Travel Service in the 80's (moved from unit 277) before moving again (to unit 164) and was later Austin's Travel Shop and CPI Photo Finish.

238 - This used to Jenifer House gift shop before becoming Tennisnut in the late 70's and Fan Fun sporting goods by 1980. It would then become Good Grief general gifts and then Merle Harmon's Fan Fair into the 90's.
240 - This used to be an Orange Julius from the late 60's to the late 80's. It then became JC Accessories.

242 - This used to be a Fanny Farmer Candy Shop and then became Whitehall Jewelers by 1987.
244 - This used to be The Swiss Colony cheese and dairy products store from 1967 until becoming Bombay Company furniture store by the early 90's.
246 - This used to be Bookland from at least 1970 until becoming Pasta women's clothing store by 1987 into the 90's.
248 - Spencer Gifts operated at the mall from 1967 to at least 1998 (the last few years were at a different location in the mall). It later became Payless Shoe Source until about the mid 00's. 250 - This used to be Hollywood Sleep Shop beginning in March 1968 and then became The Slack Shoppe by 1970, Beau Britches mens clothing by 1972, Gatepost mens clothing by 1979 and Baker's Shoes (previously in unit 152) by 1985.

252 - This used to be Zale's Jewelers from 1967 to at least 1997.

254 - This used to be Lindberg's Piano for over 20 years until becoming Prints Plus by the early 90's.

256 - This used to be Champs Sporting Goods in the 90's and 00's.

256 (later listed as 258)- This used to be Flagg Bros. Shoe Store until becoming Jarman Shoe Store in the 80's into the 90's.

267 - This used to be Brooks Fashion Stores from about 1973 to the early 80's when it moved to unit 280. Photo: Brooks Fashions (unit 267) and Midland Travel Services (unit 277) can be seen here.

268 - Located next to Sears, this used to be The Barnsider Restaurant from 1969 until February 1990. It was renamed as Barnsider's Key West Restaurant during the early 80's.  Aladdin's Castle arcade moved here in about the early 90's until later in the decade.  Unit 268 was later part of Champs Sports.

270a - This started as Howard men's clothing and then became Kid's Store by 1973. It would later become KayBee Toys by 1982 into the 90's.

270b - This used to be World Apparel and then The Casual Male men's clothing in the 80's. It later became Music World into the 90's.

272 - This used to be Regal Shoes from the early days of the mall until about 1990 when it became Naturalizer Shoes.

274 - This used to be Prep & Squire Shop until about 1990, when it became American Eagle Outfitters.

276 - This was part of Prep & Squire Shop before becoming Pine Factory furniture in the 90's.

277 - This used to be Midland Travel Service until moving to unit 236 and this unit then became Cookie Factory.  It was later Bath Scentsations.

278 - This used to be Country Store from 1967 to about 1972.

280 - This used to be Lenart Magnavox Home Entertainment Center until about the mid 70's. It was later Saint Onge's men's clothing and became Brooks Fashions (formerly at unit 267) in the early 80's into the 90's.

281 - This was Athletic Attic in the 80's and later the Athlete's Foot into the 90's.

282 - This was National Shirt Shops until becoming His Place and then Attivo men's clothing stores.

Rocky Point Avenue

41 - Located behind Burger King at 1756 Post Rd, Runway 41 Sports Bar & Grill (since 2017) used to be Hal-Mac's Bar from the early-to-mid 70's until becoming Saratoga Bar & Grill by the 00's.  Hal-Mac's was also previously listed at 1756 Post Rd. beginning about 1969 before moving a very short distance to the current address. It had previously been Jack's Bar going back to the early 40's.

Sandy Lane

459 - Sandy Lane Meat Market has been operating at this location since about the late 50's.
459 (2) - This used to be Aime's Fruit Stand from about the late 50's to the early-to-mid 80's before Sandy Lane Meat Market expanded into this spot.
600 - Warwick Public Library opened here in May 1965. The library underwent a $6 million dollar expansion in 1998.
997 - Sunshine Express Restaurant used to be Sandy Lane Sports Shop from 1970 to about 1983, when it was used for additional space for Butcher Boy Meat Market.
1001 - The former Coffee Beans and Bagels used to be the Butcher Boy Meat Market from November 1970 to the mid 90's. It then became Fifth Avenue Bagel Shoppe and has also been Dave's Café, Competitor's Closet and Elite Screen Printing   Below: The Butcher Boy Meat Market can be seen in the background along with the Burger King sign in this 1987 photo.

1015 - Sandy Lane Gas & Convenience store started as McDermott's Atlantic service station around 1968 (converted to McDermott's Arco in 1970) until 1977, when it became Sandy Lane Arco.  In 1985, it switched to Sandy Lane Getty and continued through the 00's. Strawberry Fields Road
5 - This used to be Peter Pan Pantry (aka The Pantry) restaurant from about 1963 to 1970. It then became La Croix Fine Foods from about 1971 to 1974 and closed after a fire took down the building.
15 - This used to be a Cumberland Farms store from about 1963 to the early 70's. It later became Carl's Communication Center by 1973.
21 - This used to be Wilde's Corner Co-Op Coin Laundry from about 1963 to 1969. It then became Tanzi's Meat Market from about 1970 to 1974.
27 - BankNewport (since November 2021) used to be a Citizens Bank from March 1962 all the way until moving its Wildes Corner Branch to 2574 West Shore Rd. in early 2021.

Toll Gate Road  
32 - Café Tempo Coffee House (since 2014) used to be an Arco service station in the 70's and 80's until being converted to a Shell station in 1985. It later became The Bagel Factory from about 1995 until closing after a fire in 2013 and then remodeled to Café Tempo. Tidewater Drive
388 - Located at the corner of Longmeadow Ave. and Tidewater Dr., The Big Penny Market operated from around the mid 40's until January 1980. It was known as Longmeadow Market until the 60's.

Did you know?  Big Penny Market had what was essentially a second location in 1976-77, selling the same products under the name of Kansas City Stockyard Market at Village Mall (1400 Post Rd.).

21 - Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana (since May 2018) at Bald Hill Commons plaza used to be Corner Bakery Cafe from late 2013 until 2016. It had earlier been a Fresh City restaurant from late 2004 until 2008.

24 -Best Buy (since October 1999) at Bald Hill Commons plaza used to be an Edwards Super Food Store from May 1993 until 1996 (was listed at 1401 Bald Hill Rd.). It then became a Ro-Jack's Food Store from February 1997 to March 1999.

24 - This has been a Savers thrift store since 2001.

31A - This has been an Olive Garden Italian Restaurant at Bald Hill Commons plaza since April 1991.

31B - Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill Restaurant (since 2002) at Bald Hill Commons plaza used to be a Red Lobster Seafood Restaurant from April 1991 until June 2001.
80 - This has been a Home Depot at Bald Hill Commons plaza since 1992.

22 - 911Programs used to be Warwick Prescription Center beginning in 1969.

35 - Now a doctor's office, this used to be Pawtucket Institute for Savings from about 1970 until changing to Attleboro Pawtucket Savings Bank after a merger in November 1987.It later became Coastway Credit Union and Wave Credit Union. Photo: Attleboro Pawtucket Savings Bank can be seen in 1990 along with the sign for Economy Mobil next door.

91 - Mobil Mart service station and convenience store (since 1985 starting as Economy Mobil) used to be Economy American (later Economy Amoco) from about 1970 to 1985, when all Amoco stations in the area were converted to other brands.
141 - Honey Dew Donuts (since January 2000) used to be the popular Steak N Shake restaurant from 1955 until closing in January 1987.  It then became Dairyhaus of Apponaug in late 1987. It later became Divozzi's Bakery in February 1992, Max's Ice Cream & Yogurt in 1994 and Al's Ice Cream & Sandwich Shoppe in April 1995.

160 - This used to be an A & P Food Store in the 50's until the late 60's, becoming Atlantic Junior Department Store in 1969.  From about 1971 to 1977, it was B-G Store.  It then became NHD Hardware until being destroyed by a fire in January 1981.  The store was rebuilt in 1984 (see 1330 Greenwich Ave. above).

Vine Avenue
96 - A garage now stands at the location (now 96 Herff Jones Way) just off Warwick Ave. and diagonally across from Shaw's Supermarket that used to be Ballou's Dine & Dance in the 1940's, The Red Barn (aka Jerry Christy's Red Barn) from early 1950 to at least 1955 and Starlite Lounge from about 1960 to 1975. It then became Dorsey's Tavern from about 1975 to 1987 and Fran's Tavern from 1987 to 2001.

145 - This used to be Handler's Market going back to at least the mid 40's until becoming Tommy's Meat Market in the late 70's. It later became The Cash Register in the mid 80's.
165 - Located at the corner of Warwick Ave. and Park Ave. was the popular Miami Diner going back to at least 1954 and renovated in 1956. It became Three G's New York System Restaurant in the late 70's and then Original Gregory's until closing after a fire in 1985.

238 - Torn down in the late 00's, this used to be Dairy Shoppe (aka Joe's Dairy Shoppe) ice cream stand from the late 70's into the 90's.  Earlier, it had been Horn Fuel & Oil and Forget Me Nots Gifts. Photo: Dairy Shoppe from 1985.

250 - Torn down in the late 00's, this used to be Easy Wash Car Wash starting about the mid 70's and operating into the 90's.

260 - Located in front of the above car wash was a self-service gas station that sold Phillips 66 gasoline in the mid 70's and would later switch to Citgo, Arco and then Mobil from 1985 into the 90's.   Below 1: The Arco self-service station, Easy Wash car wash and the sign for Joe's Dairy Shoppe from 1984.  Below 2: In 1985, all Arco stations in Rhode Island were rebranded and this station switched to Mobil (seen below in March 1986 with Joe's right behind the sign).

313 -  Phillips Plumbing used to be Choppy's Fried Chicken back in 1947 until about 1972 (listed at 311 Warwick Ave after 1969).  It was then Millstream Lounge (earlier Millstream Cafe was listed at 311 Warwick Ave. before 1969) and later Billie Jeanne's Playpen (opened in 1975), Sir William's Pub (opened in 1979 and later renamed Millstream Pub), Rick's Place (opened in 1983), Jukebox (opened in 1985), Club Goodtimes by 1990 and Duke's Good Times by 1992 for at least the next ten years.  Also here in the mid-to-late 40's and damaged by an October 1952 was Ice Cream Parlor.
320 – Shaw's supermarket and plaza was built in 1993 on the location that used to be a Warwick Shoppers World department store beginning in 1955. After a merger, it became Warwick Zayre in 1971 with comedian Norm Crosby as spokesman.  The name was later shortened to Zayre and then changed to Ames from 1988 to 1990.  The building would remain vacant until it was torn down in 1993 to build Shaw's.  Prior to Warwick Shoppers World, it had been the Winter Garden Arena (later Sholes Winter Garden) roller skating rink from 1951 to 1955 and rebuilt after a 1953 fire. 

325 - Used to be Howdy Beef Burgers from 1961 until 1978.  Following Howdy’s, Kal's Steak & Beef  (opened in late 1978), Capt. Barnaby's (opened in 1980) and Mario’s Italian Restaurant (opened in 1981) were here until the early 80's.  The building would eventually be torn down.  Prior to Howdy, Palumbo's Fruit Orchards Stand (later Al Tash's Fruit Stand by 1959) was at this location beginning in 1951.
344 - Dairy Dinette restaurant was here from about 1957 to 1962. Once torn down, the area was used for parking for Warwick Shoppers World.
345 – House of Bargains was here from possibly the late 40's until closing on August 1, 1987.
353 - A Fotomat booth was here from about 1970 to the mid-to-late 1980’s.
360 (bank)– An empty lot next to Shaw's used to be Industrial National Bank from December 1962 until early 1985. The name of the bank was changed to Fleet National Bank in 1982.  
360 (night club) - This address at about the present location of Shaw's was a popular Warwick night spot in the 1930's and 1940's, first as Club Badgad, which opened in 1933. It then became Heigh-Ho Theater & Restaurant from 1941 until closing after a fire in July 1944, Terrace Club after being rebuilt from 1946 to 1949, Sharby's nightclub in August 1949 and Moosehead Barn in April 1951.
370 - To the right of the former bank location on that same empty lot next to Shaw's used to be a First National Supermarket from December 1962 until July 1980.  After that it became an IGA Foodliner and then a Shop-Rite Food Warehouse in November 1981. The building was used as a food processing plant for area food banks later in the 1980's and was boarded up by 1990 and later torn down.
388 - I.M. Gan Discount Liquors used to be Bond Furniture City from 1962 until 1984.  It then became United Surgical Centers in 1985 (moved from 685 Park Ave. in Cranston) into the 90's and later Apponaug Heights Liquors.
400 - A plaza built in the late 80's as Lakewood Commons used to be the location of Turilli Furniture from 1955 until closing after a fire demolished the building in June 1981.
400 - The former Tim Horton's restaurant from mid 00's to 2008 (the free-standing building in the Lakewood Commons plaza) used to be a Bess Eaton Donuts location from 1987 to the mid 00's.
400 (16) - Tong Chinese Restaurant used to be Ping Vietnamese Restaurant (opened in 1991).
400 (23) - Anthony's Old World Deli (since the 00's) used to be Big Al's Deli in the early 90's. By 2000, it was Cafeteria Le Madeline.
405 - Pawtucket Credit Union was built starting in late 2005 at the location that used to be Acme Motors from about 1968 until 1986. It then became Ocean State Nissan until the early 90's.
422 -  Dunkin Donuts and Ronzio Pizza are at the former location of Liberty Furniture from November 1950 until November 1966 when it was also closed after a fire demolished the building.  After being rebuilt, it became Used and Discontinued Furniture (a division of Turilli's) and then Warwick Galleries in 1968, Two Worlds Gifts by 1972, Doughnuttery Incorporated by 1973 and Riccotti's Sandwich Shop by 1980 and then operating until about 1995.
440 - The Cozy Grill Restaurant (since 1997) used to be Ted's New York System Restaurant (moved from 465 Warwick Ave.) starting in about 1990. This had been the address of D'Amico Plumbing from at least the late 50's to the early 80's. It then became National Job Lot.
455 - R & S Autobody & Repair used to be a Citgo service station (Lakewood Citgo, then R & A Citgo) from about 1972 to 1982. It then sold gasoline as an independent as R & A  Auto Service (see photo) for the rest of the 80's and became City Brakes and Joe's Towing in the 90's. In the 00's and into the 2010's, it was Rhode Island Auto Body.

465 - Neza Mexican Restaurant (since July 2023) used to be Ted's New York System Restaurant from the mid 70's until shortly becoming Sam's Place (opened in January 1991). It later became Rose's Family Restaurant in the late 90's and then Paula's Place Restaurant for at least 18 years until January 2023.  Going back to the early 70's, it was Lorenzo Pizza and then Pizzarium Sandwich Shoppe.

479 - Seasons of New England (since 2012) used to be Donabedian's Fruits and Vegetables going back to the 50's until 2012.
516 - Emerald Scissorhand's Salon used to be Vi's Beauty Shoppe from about the mid 60's and going into the 90's. It later became 516 Salon in the early 2010's.
529 - Eddie's 529 Club (since the mid-to-late 70's) used to be Cohan & Wilson Café going all the way back to 1938. By 1944, it was Bob Wilson's Café and then became Gene Moran's Five Hundred Club by 1948 and going into the early 50's. By the late 50's, it was 529 Club until changing to John Keegan's 529 Club by 1970 until about 1977.
544 - PC Tech Computer Store used to be Lakewood Plumbing and Heating Supply from at least the 50's until the mid-to-late 70's.  It then became Precision Saw & Mowing Service in the early-to-mid 80's and operating into the 90's.  Photo 1: The building at 544/546 Warwick Ave. was covered with political signs shortly before Election Day in November 1972.  Photo 2: A group of billboards used to stand across the street from 544 Warwick Ave. This photo was also taken shortly before Election Day in November 1972.  The area is now an empty lot.

546 - Now part of 544 Warwick Ave as it has been since the mid 80's, this used to be MacDonald Realty in the 60's and then became Parkview News Service newspaper distributors from about 1970 to 1974. 557 - Domino's Pizza used to be Harp & Shamrock Lounge from the early 70's into the 00's and later was Nostalgia Grille and also Fire Lounge.  Earlier in the 60's, it was Matty's Café.

568 - Murphy's Petroleum (since 2011) used to be Lakewood Sunoco for well over 25 years until the mid 80's, when it became Carl's Sunoco.  After briefly going unbranded in 1991, it became a Citgo in 1992, WASC (Warwick Avenue Service Center) by 1995 and later was a Coastal Station by 2000.  At right top: The station in 1991 after it became unbranded.  The handwritten signs on the gas pumps state that this is not Sunoco gas.  At right bottom: Not a real clear photo, but here is the intersection at Warwick Ave. and Post Rd. in 1972., including Lakewood Sunoco, Bicho Bros. 588 - New Canton Restaurant (since 1983) used to be Rico's Restaurant (see photo from 1975) from about 1969 to 1982.  Prior to that, it was Lakewood Spa from at least the late 40's to early-to-mid 60's, Libby's Spa (mid-to-late 60's) and then Patty's Snack Bar. 

620 - AXI Signs used to be Marbu Restaurant in the 1940's and became Lakewood Grille restaurant in the 50's until about 1963. It was then Warwick Aquarium by 1965 until 1971.
625 - Little John's Pizza (since about 1974) used to be the location of Lakewood Super Market in the latter half of the 40's and early half of the 50's.  It became Electronics, Inc. in the late 50's and early 60's and was later Weave Shed, Inc., Larry's Auction House and The Game Shack billiards in the 60's. During the first part of the 70's, it was Fine Oven Products.
626 - Celestial Church of Christ used to be Lakewood Bowling Alleys from about the late 1930's until 1953.  It then became Mal's Furniture from 1953 to 1976 and was briefly Lakewood Used Furniture around 1978. Later businesses here included Gem-Two Ltd. from the early 80's into the 90's and CarQuest Auto Parts in the 00's and early 2010's.
641 - Anchor Seafood Market used to be Warwick Auto Parts from the early-to-mid 80's into the 00's. It later became Gardner's Wharf Seafood and then Smitty's Seafood.
651 - Other than a brief period in the late 70's as Lord's Inn Restaurant & Lounge, this was the Fireside Inn Restaurant & Lounge from the early 40's until the mid-to-late 00's.  There was often a name associated with the restaurant (names included in chronological order were: Bishop's, Manny Almeida's, Fanny's and Brandi's).
675 - This used to be Torano's Pizzeria in the early 50's and Dante's Pizza in the late 50's.  In the 60's, it was Ed's Lakewood Pizza and Merlyn's Restaurant before being vacant and then no longer listed by 1971.
705 -  A & B Market started as Lakewood Florists in 1976.  It then became a Nissen Bakery Thrift Store from about 1977 to 1979.  After that, it was Woodcraft Discount Supply in the early-to-mid 80's, and a Providence Journal-Bulletin Distribution Center from the mid 80's into the 90's. It was later Quahog Convenience in the 00's.
707 - Yummy Kitchen Chinese Restaurant (since about the mid 00's) started as F.A. Spargo Co. from 1976 into the 90's and was a USPS office by 2000.
709 - American Made Barbershop & Shave started as Joseph's Hair Salon from 1976 into the 90's. By 2000, it was Totally Clips and was later Grow With Us hydroponics.
715 - C & L Auto Sales (since about 1982) used to be Wholesale Tire of Warwick from about 1971 until becoming Coastal Auto Sales from about 1973 to 1982.
739 - The former Then Again used to be Annex Market Gardens from about 1951 to 1990, becoming Frank's Deli in the early 90's.  The building was torn down to build a new Dollar Tree store, which was completed in about late 2020. 767 - CVS (since 1999) used to be the location of a Star Market from January 1957 (as United Star Market) before converting to Almacs in 1990 until closing in late 1993.  The building was torn down in 1998 to build CVS. Photo: A temporary Almacs sign is displaying at the Star Market in Warwick's Lakewood section during its conversion in 1990.

774 - Lakewood Liquors used to be Silva's Lakewood Drug Store going back to at least the mid 30's for over 30 years. It then became Lido's Liquors in the mid-to late 60's and Murphy's Liquors in the early 70's also for over 30 years.
777 - Located adjacent to Star Market, this started as Industrial National Bank from the late 50's to about 1964. After being vacant for many years, it was Ann's Flower Shoppe from about 1971 before moving up the street to 1227 Warwick Ave. in 1975.  After briefly being Pointless Forest jewelry & gifts (opened in December 1975), it then became Bess Eaton Donuts from June 1977 to the mid 80's.
780 - The long time home of Lakewood Hay & Grain for well over 50 years from at least 1926 until a fire demolished the building in early 1985.
1080 - Hoxsie Cleaners used to be a Gulf service station (Mario's Gulf Service) from about the mid 50's until 1967. It then became Wescott-Slade Paints until the mid 80's and was later Governor Francis Dry Cleaners. Photo: Governor Francis Dry Cleaners (former Gulf Station) in 1990.
1100 - Mann Motors used to be called Mann Auto Sales (see photo) from the early 70's into the 90's. In the 60's, it was General Auto Sales and even earlier, starting in 1956 was Dawson Motors.
1109 - Benny's (now Ocean State Job Lot as of October 2019), which closed in late 2017 after about 15 years here, was at the location that used to be the following (1109-1117 Warwick Ave.): Photo: Benny's (now Ocean State Job Lot) at 1109 Warwick Ave. in June 2016.

1109 - Stanley Green's Restaurant from August 1965 until February 1976. It then became Valentino's night club until closing just a few months later after a fire in October 1976.  After renovations to the building, Sawyer School operated a branch here (originally called Sawyer School South) from October 1977 until moving to 1222 Warwick Ave. in September 1994.  In March 1995, the building would reopen as Johnny Appleseed's Family Market. Photo: The sign for the Sawyer School and Mann's Auto Sales across the street in 1990.

1111 - Merlen Pharmacy from June 1961 until becoming CVS Pharmacy in May 1982.  CVS was here until moving to its current location at 767 Warwick Ave. in 1999.
1113 - Woodlawn Laundry from December 1960 until the early 80's.
1117 - Spring Green Liquors from about 1961 until becoming Jennie's Liquors in the mid 80's. It was later L & M Liquors and Pizza Hut.
1121 - Salvation Army Thrift Shop (since mid-to-late 80's) used to be Marson's Market from 1957 until October 1979 (see photo).  In between, it was Leapman's Furniture Gallery and Bare Woods Unfinished Furniture. Did you know?: Marson's Market was previously located in Cranston at 1043 Narragansett Blvd. (the location of Edgewood Market since 1958) beginning in 1942.

1130 - Valvoline Instant Oil Change was built in 1989 as a Grease Monkey Oil Change (bottom right).  Previously, a small service station was in this location (Potters Wholesale going back to the 1950's, then Bay Gasoline in the early-to- mid 80's (bottom left).

1131 - Warwick Walk-In Clinic was built in 1989 as a Video Junction video store that operated until about the late 90's. Long ago from about the late 50's until the early 70's, a Shell service station was in this location, although its address was 1135 Warwick Ave.
1153 - Atlantic Family Eye Care used to be Carson & Ellis paint store from 1953 until about 1979, when it became Fairlane Paint Co. It was then Pilgrim Paint & Home Center by 1983 into the 90's. Later businesses here included Creative Treasures, The Center, Pilgrim Floor Covering and Pilgrim Dollar Store.
1168 (right-side unit) - Double Vision Optical (since the mid 90's) used to be Governor Francis Barber Shop from 1975 until the late 80's, when it became American Hair Lines into the 90's.  At this location from at least 1940 to the mid 60's before being rebuilt was Pop Hawkins Shell Fish Market. It was succeeded by Bing Crosby Shellfish Co. in 1965, The Poor Boy Restaurant and Lunch in 1969, Zaccagnini's Restaurant by 1971 (damaged by a fire in early 1972) and National Pet Supply Center in 1972.
1168 (left-side unit) - Avenue Barbershop used to be Tans 2000 tanning salon from about the mid 80's to mid 2010's.
1184 - Premier Automotive Sales used to be an Esso service station from the early 60's until about 1975 (converted to Exxon in 1972).  It was called Spring Green Esso/Exxon for most of that time. By 1977, it was Callahan Oil, then Warwick Lehigh service station by 1978.  It then became Domin's Tire Sales by 1980 and continued into the 90's,
1201 - Now Family Dollar (since 2019), the former Rite-Aid Pharmacy (previously Brooks Pharmacy) was the site of a Firestone Tires (later S & S Tires) store from September 1962 until the mid 70's after starting as Arch Lumber Co. in June 1959.  It then became Uncle Tony's Pizza and Pasta from October 1976 to 1984 before being replaced by Mama Spumoni's restaurant from September 1984 until late 1991.  Uncle Tony's would later resurface in a new location a few doors up the road at 1229 Warwick Ave. in late 1987.  In early 1992, this became The Great Impasta restaurant for about one year.  The location was then rebuilt into a Brooks Pharmacy by early 1995. Below: Again not a real clear photo, but Mama Spumoni's (yellow sign) can be seen in 1990.

1217 - Wave Federal Credit Union used to be a 7-Eleven store from about 1971 to 1976. It then became a Mister Donut location in late 1977 and Markdowns Ltd. clothing in September 1978 until August 1980. By 1981, it had turned into Warwick Municipal Employees Credit Union.
1219 - This used to be Bernardo's Super Market from about 1947 to 1959. It then became Warwick Tire from 1959 to 1961 and Cumberland Farms from 1961 to about 1969 before being torn down to build the 7-Eleven store.

1222 - Planet Fitness used to be an Anderson Little clothing store from February 1964 until 1972 before becoming Save-Rite catalog store from October 1972 to 1992.  Sawyer School (opened in September 1994) and Waldorf Tuxedo were also here in the 90's and 00's.
1227 -The former Body Fuel Supplements & Nutrition (opened in 2013) used to be Ann's Flower Shoppe from about 1975 to 2011. Before that, it was Abrams Kosher Market delicatessen from June  1969 to 1975.
1229- Rigatoni's Family Restaurant (since 1995) used to be Uncle Tony's Pizza and Pasta (opened in late 1987 until becoming Rigatoni's in 1995).  Before becoming a restaurant, this was Dauphinee's Hardware (about 1958 to 1962), Shaset's Auto Supply (about 1964 to 1977), Parts Plus Autostore (1978 to 1980) and Replacement Auto Parts (1980 to 1986).

1240 - This used to be a Mobil service station (primarily as Governor Francis Mobil, but was earlier Community Service Station) from about 1954 until closing in 2009 and then torn down in the early 2010's.  Below: Governor Francis Mobil in early 1990.

1243 - This used to be Brookfield Fruit Market (later Brook-Field Garden & Bait Shop) from about 1959 to 1978. It then became Country Deli for a short time.  By 1982, it was Woodlawn Laundry & Cleaners (operated here into the 90's) as well as Best New York System. The restaurant became a beauty shop (Hairstyles Unlimited and later Hair Stop) shortly after for close to 20 years.

1251 - Governor Francis Inn Restaurant (since August 1997 and earlier from 1978 to 1993) used to be Governor's Steak House from 1951 to 1978. It was also The Cactus Grille in 1994 and Patricia's Family Restaurant in 1995 and 1996.



1256 - Home of the Awful Awful thick shake drink, this location in the Governor Francis Shopping Center has been a Newport Creamery restaurant since June 1953. 1271 - Alpine (Shine On) Car Wash (since about 1986) used to be the location of Warwick Cities Service (converted to Warwick Citgo in 1965) service station from about 1957 to 1977.  In between, it was Auto-Medic Car Care Center from 1979 to 1980 and Ronzio Automotive Enterprises from January 1981 to late 1985.
1280 - Advance Auto Parts (started as Parts America in about 1996) used to be an Adams/Brooks Pharmacy from February 1968 until about 1995.

1290 - The current Dollar General and former Ocean State Job Lot (June 1990 until moving to 1109 Warwick Ave. in October 2019) used to be an A & P Supermarket from July 1952 (see photo 1) until April 1979.  It was then an IGA Supermarket from August 1979 (Lee's IGA, then Sutton's IGA Foodliner beginning in 1982) until December 1989 (see photo 2).

1291 - Cumberland Farms (since about 1977) used to be an Atlantic Service Station (converted to Arco in 1970) from the late 50's to 1976.  Before being rebuilt in the late 60's, it was listed at 1305 Warwick Ave.
1300 - Bank Of RI was the location of Kelly's Hamburgers from 1965 until about 1973 after being originally opened as an A & W Root Beer Stand in November 1963.  After being rebuilt, it then became Peoples Bank (moved from Namquid Dr.) in 1975 and later converted to Shawmut Bank in 1990.  Did you know?: Rico Petrocelli of the Red Sox made a special appearance at Kelly's Hamburger's in Warwick on a scorching hot summer day in 1968 to promote their Rico Power Pack Meal. Photo: Picture quality may be lacking in this 1973 photo of Warwick Ave. near Namquid Dr. coming from an old microfilm, however it should be a familiar sight to many Warwick residents of the early 70's. Signs include Governor Francis Mobil and Kelly's Hamburgers, along with Newport Creamery, Peoples Bank, Sterling Shoes, Governor Francis Beauty Salon and Fields & Cusick Travel from Governor Francis Shopping Center.

1305 - Governor Francis Laundry and Cleaners used to be Joywash laundromat from about 1970 to 1977.  It then became Norge Laundry & Dry Cleaning Village by 1978, Egan's Econo-Wash by 1980, Heyward's Econo-Wash by 1982, Truppi's Coin Laundry by 1985 and Governor Francis Coin & Dry Cleaning by 1989 into the 90's when it changed to its current name.
1307 - This used to be Palumbo's Fruit Stand from at least 1936 to about 1965.
1309 - Yard Works used to be Spring Green Sunoco service station from the late 50's to about 1971. It then became Driftwood Greenhouse into the 90's.
1329 - The Paint Shoppe (since about the mid 00's) used to be Canton (later New Canton) Restaurant from at least 1957 until moving to 588 Warwick Ave. in 1983. After a period of vacancy, it became Wescott-Slade Paints in the late 80's and was GCM Paints by 2000.
1331 - Crusty's Pizza (since June 1987) used to be a Sunnybrook Farms convenience store from the early-to-mid 60's through about 1980. From the early-to-mid 80's, it was Donuts To Go (opened in June 1981) and Mighty Fine Donuts.

1415 - Now the location of Grandma's Train Depot and A Cut Above Floral Design, this used to be Kelly Florist from about the mid 40's to early 90's.
1441 - This used to be Burke-Tarr Furniture from about 1958 to 2006.
1473 - Washington Trust Company (since 2009) is at the location that used to be Barry's Nightclub, which transitioned from the Volare Inn (1977 to 1979) during the disco craze in 1979 and operated until 2005 (torn down in 2008).  Prior to that, it was the Holland House restaurant from 1953 to the mid 70's. Even earlier, it was the Dreyfus Frog Farm restaurant and going way back to the early 20th century, it was called The Willows.
1533 - This used to be Hoxsie Cleaners from at least the early 50's all the way into the early-to-mid 2010's.
1550 - Torn down in 2003 to make way for Walgreens, this used to be Town & Country Cleaners from about the mid 50's to 1989. It was later used for various auto sales and repair businesses.
1551 - Torn down in 2018, this used to be Copperfield's Lounge from about the early-to-mid 80's to late 00's.  From the late 70's to early 80's, it had been Duffy's Tavern, then The Neighborhood Pub.  Going back earlier to the late 50's and 60's, Pheasant Coffee & Tea was here.  Photo: Copperfield's sign can be seen in photo from 2006.
1564 - Walgreen's Pharmacy is near the location that used to be Palmer Plymouth from about 1966 to 1980 (was previously Warwick Motors starting in 1957 and earlier Governor Francis Packard going back to the early 50's). After a few changes, including becoming U-Sell-It in September 1980, it became Number One Tire Auto & Repair from the early-to-mid 80's into the 90's, later becoming Haas Tires.  The building was torn down in 2003 to make way for Walgreens.
1565 - D'Angelo Grilled Sandwiches (since May 1983) used to be Hoxsie Texaco from about 1960 until the mid 70's (the station was rebuilt in the mid-to-late 60's using the Texaco Matawan design).  In between, from about 1977 to 1981 it was Brosco Motors.  Below: The Texaco Matawan design can still be seen in this photo of D'Angelo from 1990.

1579 - Now used for parking, a Phillips 66 service station operated at the southwest corner of Hoxsie Four Corners from the mid 60's to the early 70's.  Walmac Service Station (Mobil) operated at this location from about the mid 30's to late 50's and then became Four Corners Richfield Service Station in the early 60's.  It later became RI Rentals and Autorite stations before being torn down in the 80's.
1584 - Metro PCS at the southeast corner of Hoxsie Four Corners used to be the location of East Greenwich Dairy Restaurant in the 1940's to about 1952. It was replaced by Hoxsie Donut Kettle (remembered for its car hops) in early 1953.  Donut Kettle would close after a fire caused extensive damage to the building in October 1956 and was not rebuilt.  The remaining equipment was sold in an auction two months later. By 1960, the location would become a Baker Auto used car dealership, but was vacant by 1963 until Dunkin' Donuts moved here from 1601 Warwick Ave. in 1968. In 2001, Dunkin' Donuts was rebuilt into a newly-designed shop and would switch to 1582 Warwick Ave and later to 35 West Shore Rd. in 2023.  Later at this address was National Communication Center and Express Wireless, 

1599 - This used to be Riccotti's Sandwich Shop from 1969 until moving inside Gateway Plaza in March 1981.  It later became part of Rite Aid Pharmacy in 1982.  Before Riccotti's, it was Ben Holloway Carpets from about 1959 to 1969.
1601 - Until moving across the street to 1584 Warwick Ave. by early 1969, this was the original Dunkin' Donuts location at Hoxsie Four Corners going back to early 1958.  It then became Sherry's Beauty Supply in October 1970 and later Aluma-Sash Windows by 1972.
1616 - Bob G's Auto Repair used to be a Midas Muffler Shop (opened about 1960).  By 1967, it had changed to Aamco Transmissions and continued into the 90's. By 2000, it was Escort Limousine Service and later became U-Save Auto Sales.
1617 - Fancy Nails in Gateway Plaza used to be Korb's Bakery from 1963 to 1999. It then became Funky Nails.  Prior to Korb's, it was June Carol Bakeries going back to at least 1954.
1629 - Pizza Hut (since 2023) in Gateway Plaza used to be D.M. Lonergan Paint & Wallpaper from about 1953 to 1983.  It then became Sleepy Hollow Antiques Emporium and was recently I.M. Perfect Fit Tailor Shop.

1633 - Nick & Joan's Place restaurant (since 1984) in Gateway Plaza used to be Beauty Nest Salon from about 1966 to 1978. It has also been Bellevue Camera Shops (late 50's), Syd Bander Discount Jeweler (early-to-mid 60's), Roberts Discount Jewelers (mid 60's), The Straw Hut (late 70's) and The Dance Factory (early 80's).

1637 - This used to be Bo-Peep Meat Market in the late 50's before become Old Stone Bank from about 1960 to 1969 (moved across the street to 10 West Shore Rd.). It then became Pacific Finance and then Associates Financial Services of RI in the 70's and early 80's. It was next PJ's Gifts & Mexican Imports by 1985, James Martin Realty by 1987 and Ronzio's Pizza by 1991. By the early 00's, it was Pizza Planet.                                                                      

1639 - Evolution Fitness in Gateway Plaza used to be The Book Shelf from 1969 to 1975, when it became The Indoor Garden until 1977.  It was later The Sweet Tooth Gift Shop and Caroline Dutra Dance Studio before becoming Original Riccotti's Sandwich Shop from March 1981 to about 1984. From there, it was Martin-L Jewelers into the 90's. 

1645 - The former Cheapskates convenience store in Gateway Plaza used to be a Ben Franklin 5 and 10 store from 1955 until early 1988. It was later Warwick Tailors.
1653 - Lovely Little Laundromat (since the early-to-mid 90's) in Gateway Plaza used to be Donnelly's clothing store from May 1955 until moving to a larger store in the Governor Francis Shopping Center in 1984.  It would become a laundromat (Starbrite) by 1986.

1655 - First Choice Consignment in Gateway Plaza used to be Gateway Pharmacy from about 1963 to 1983. Also here during that time was Peter Pan Pantry restaurant (60's and early 70's) and then The Pantry, Janal Pantry and The Little Chef (mid-to-late 70's). It started as Rip Van Winkle Furniture from the early-to-mid 50's to early 60's. It later became E-Z Rentals in the mid 80's ,then Colortyme Rentals from the mid-to-late 80's into the 90's and Home-To-Home Consignments. 1672 - The former Xtreme Subs used to be Hoxsie New York System Restaurant from the late 70's to the early 2010's.  In its later years, it was known as Al's Hoxsie New York System. From the late 60's to the late 70's, businesses here included Elmwood Medical Laboratory, AAA Pool Service and Spinning Wheel Ceramic Shop.
1692 - Anatolia Creations used to be a number of different businesses over the years. Two of the most notable include Pizza Villa Restaurant from about 1971 to 1979 and Oxx 'n Yoke gift shop from the mid 80's into the 90's.
1697 - Amaral Automation is at the location that used to be Hoxsie Fish & Chips in the late 50's and early 60's. It then became Baker's Fish & Chips from about 1964 to 1974 and was later used as additional space for Baker's Dance Studio, which was located next door at 1703 Warwick Ave.  In the early 80's, it was a real estate office as well as Triad Systems and then Elmwood Medical Laboratory from the mid 80's into the 90's.
1707 - Good Morning Restaurant (since about 1986) used to be Acropolis Restaurant starting about 1982. Before becoming a restaurant, this started as Oak Tree Crafts in March 1979 and was then Calico Cat.
1727 - This has been DePetrillo's Pizza & Bakery not only since around the late 90's but also earlier from the early-to-late 80's.   In between, it was Happy's Pizza & Bakery from the early-to-late 90's.  A Fruitland store under various names was here in the 70's.
1728 - Copy World (since June 1981) used to be Taglione's Market from 1938 to 1968.  It then became Country Fresh Dairy Store until the late 70's.  From 1979 to the early 80's, it was Sunset Milk & Dairy.
1764 - Before being torn down, this used to be Mancor's Department Store from about 1950 to 1974 and Mary's Book Exchange from 1976 to the late 80's. Briefly in between from 1974 to 1976, it was Marion's Crafts.
1766 - Honey Dew Donuts has been at this location since about 1990. Hartley Tours had previously been at this address from the mid-to-late 80's in a building that was torn down before Honey Dew was built.
1824 - The Style Innovators Hair Salon (since the mid-to-late 80's) used to be Empire TV Service (seen below from 1986) from the early 70's to mid-to-late 80's. Prior to that in the 60's, it was Whitfield Floor Covering.

1944 - The Beacon Center (includes Warwick Beacon - since mid 80's) used to be the location of Warwick's Central Super Market from late 1948 (see photo) until 1963 (known as Central Market the last few years of operation).  It was later Beck's Beauty Supply from 1965 until 1984.   

1945 - Carolyn Dutra Dance Studio (since the mid 80's after moving from Gateway Plaza) used to be Thall's Pharmacy (see photos) from at least the early 50's until the mid 60's. In between, it was a claims service, housewares store, restaurant (Lil & Jim's), public finance office and finally, a pizza parlor (Rick's Pizza) in the early 80's.

1959 - Green Energy used to be George's Gulf service station in the late 50's and early 60's.  By the mid 60's, it was Richie's Sinclair service station and then converted to BP in 1969.  It changed again as Steve's Citgo in 1972 and after being Bay Gasoline around 1977, became a Cumberland Farms store by 1979 until about 2000. It was later Warwick Food Mart and Stop N' Go by the mid 00's.
1976 - A small plaza operates in the location that used to be a Dairy Queen ice cream stand from about 1950 to early 1968.  It then became Ali Baba's Steak and Sandwich Shop in March 1970, Mr. Amby's Sandwich Shop in June 1970, Two Guys from Italy Pizza in late 1973, G.C. Lawson Farms Ice Cream Shoppe in 1976, Movies & More in the early-to-mid 80's, Allard's Auto Supply from the mid 80's into the 90's and Bobby C's Barber Shop.
1979 - This used to be Tollgate Florist from March 1958 to the mid 00's.
1980 - Joey O's Restaurant (since July 2020) used to be Two Guys from Italy Pizza, which was here from the mid 70's until 2019. It was earlier at listed at 1982 Warwick Ave. and later at both 1980 and 1982 Warwick Ave. from the late 70's to mid 80's.
1982 - Jade Dragon Restaurant (since early 1993) used to be Bangkok Cuisine Restaurant from 1985 to 1992.
2050 - This Del's Lemonade stand has been here at this location since the mid 60's.
2055 - The former Rite Aid Pharmacy used to be Douglas Drug from the mid-to-late 70's until converting to Brooks Pharmacy in the 90's.
2065 - An office building now stands near what was the former location of Warwick Avenue Amoco for over 20 years until switching to Mobil around 1986.  Photos: Amoco in 1985 and Mobil in 1987.

2080 - Healy Physical Therapy used to be a Friendly's Restaurant from 1970 to 2011.  It then became a 7-Eleven store until about 2016. Photos:  Friendly's Restaurant in 2007 and 2011.

2089 - Coastway Credit Union used to be Warwick Credit Union going back to about 1978.
2103 - Larry's Liquors (since 1970) used to be Dean Liquors from about 1962 to 1969.  Earlier at this location from at least the 1930's until it was listed as vacant in 1960 was Haywood Dairy milk dealers.
2105 - Don's Pizza Restaurant (since 1982) used to be a Sunnybrook Farms Dairy Store from about 1962 to 1969 (later listed at 2111 Warwick Ave.). It then became Woodford Carpet & Furniture Cleaning from 1970 to 1979 and Lug-A-Rug Carpet & Upholsterer in the early 80's.
2107 - Most recently Peace & Providence, this used to be Pastry Box bakery from 1970 into the 90's and then became DeFusco's Bakery until about 2007. After that, it was Classy Nails & Spa for about a decade.
2109 - Shop Smart convenience store (since about the early 00's) used to be a Sunnybrook Farms store (listed at 2111 Warwick Ave.) from 1970 until changing to Dairy Mart by 1982. Photo: This appears to be the location of Shop Smart today. 

2123 - This used to be Virginia Lee Hair Salon from the early 60's all the way into the early 2010's.

2255 - Before being torn down, this used to be Lyon's Den restaurant and lounge from about the mid 50's to mid 90's.

2275 - Dockside Seafood Marketplace (since 1982) used to be a 7-Eleven convenience store from November 1970 to mid-to-late 70's. In between, it was Shaw's Meats.
2276 - Mizu Japanese Steakhouse (since 2011) used to be the Golden Pacific Restaurant from July 1973 until 2001.  In between, it was Taishan Palace Restaurant from 2001 to 2007 and then Backyard Bar & Grill.  Earlier, it was Brookside Chicken Coop from 1941 to November 1959, when it became Oresto's Restaurant and then Antonelli's Restaurant from September 1960 to 1962.  After that, it was Roberto's Restaurant by October 1962 until closing after a fire in March 1968. 2290 - Sam's Automotive Repair used to be a Sunoco service station under various names from about 1963 all the way into the early 00's. Photo: Carl's Sunoco in June 1991. 

2391 - Before being torn down around the mid-to-late 90's to make way for Walgreens, this used to be The Farmhouse Grille in the 50's, 60's and early 70's.  Other restaurants here included The Homestead (late 40's and early 50's), The Cock and Bull (mid 70's), Castiglioni's (mid-to-late 70's), White's Family Restaurant (late 70's and early 80's), Timothy's (early 80's), Mitzi's (early-to-mid 80's) and Joseph's Italian Restaurant (mid 80's to the 90's).
2390 - McDonald's has been at this location since late 1983.  Below: The Lobster Roll had returned at the Warwick Ave. McDonald's in 2002.

2400 - CVS Pharmacy (since August 1984) used to be a First National Supermarket from the late 50's to July 1980. It then became an IGA Foodliner in the early 80's. 
2428 - This used to be a Fotomat film booth from about 1974 to the early-to-mid 90's.
2430 - This used to be Meadowbrook Pharmacy from the late 50's until October 1983, when it was acquired by CVS Pharmacy.  CVS would then move next door into the much bigger former IGA spot in August 1984.  Tots 2 Teens moved into this location in 1985 and operated into the 90's, when it later became Haxton's West Bay Liquors. 
2436 - This used to be a Benny's Home and Auto Parts store from the early 50's until moving to 2574 West Shore Rd. in 1999.

2444 - This used to be Elta James Young Fashions in the Meadowbrook Plaza from at least the late 50's to late 60's. It later became Getta Pizza by 1971, Tony's Pizza Palace by 1977, Augie's Lounge by 1978, Will's Place by 1980, and Party Time Party Goods by 1983 into the 90's before being torn down by 2000.
2446 - This used to be a Gold Bond Gift Center in the Meadowbrook Plaza from June 1964 to about 1967. It later became Cerio's Academy of Martial Arts by 1971, Scott Sales & Service by 1973, Wellfleet Brooks Ltd. antiques by 1977, Warwick Dance Academy by 1979, Tots Two Teens clothing by 1983, PJ's Discount Books by 1989 and JT's Petland by 1991.
2450 - This used to be the Meadowbrook Cinema (early-to-mid 70's to 2000), famous for showing Rocky Horror Picture Show every Saturday at midnight for over 12 years.  It was built as a Jerry Lewis Cinema and ended as Limelight Cinema (see photo at right) in 2001. Earlier at this address was Brophy Cleaners from about 1960 to the early 70's.

2460/2462 - Torn down to make way for Stop & Shop in 2003, this used to be a Cost Plus closeout store in Meadowbrook Plaza from the mid 80's into the 00's. Earlier here was American Woman Figure Salons, which opened in 1979.
2478 - This used to be A & D Locksmith in the Meadowbrook Plaza from about 1982 to 1986.  It then became Picway Shoes into the 90's and Payless Shoe Stores until 2002.
2480 - This used to be Meadowbrook Restaurant in the Meadowbrook Plaza from about 1978 to at least the mid 90's.
2485 - Big Lots used to be a Super Stop & Shop, which opened in 1984 until moving across the street in January 2004.
2488 - This used to be Fashion Gallery from 1984 until becoming Rainbow Shops in the late 80's. It then became Hobby Zone in the early 90's and Asian Buffet by the mid-to-late 90's.
2508 - After being In-Step Shoes in the mid 80's, this became Domino's Pizza in the Meadowbrook Plaza from about 1986 to 2002.
2512 - This used to be Tropical Tans in the Meadowbrook Plaza from the early-to-mid 80's until 2002.
2516 - This used to be Captain Nemo's Sandwich Shop in the Meadowbrook Plaza from March 1995 to July 2002 before being torn down to make way for Stop & Shop in 2003.  It had earlier been Your Factory Outlet in the mid 80's, Southbrook Fashions by 1987 and Gentleman's International by 1989.
2530 - This duckpin bowling alley has had a few different names over the years since the 50's (Meadowbrook Bowling Center, Airway 20, Airway Lanes, Town Hall Lanes) but has been Meadowbrook Lanes since the early 80's.
2779 - Morris Farm has been in operation for over 100 years (since 1915).
2910 (has also been listed as 2912) - George's Pizza has been here going all the way back to the mid 70's.
2912 (has also been listed as 2910)- Harss Express used to be a Cumberland Farms store from 1972 to about 2007. Also here were Davey Sprocket Cyclery in the mid-to-late 70's, Radioland, Ltd. in the late 70's and The Medicine Shoppe in the 80's.

Warwick Mall (400 Bald Hill Road - officially opened on October 7, 1970)

104 - A part of the Old Navy store is located in the area of the mall that used to be Waldenbooks from about 1992 (was previously at unit 124) until closing and not re-opening after the mall was badly damaged by the Great Rhode Island Flood of 2010 in March of that year.

105 - This used to be a Peerless clothing store from the mall's opening in 1970 until closing in 1990. The area vacated by the store was then used to build the Carousel Food Court, which opened in August 1992. The original occupants of the food court upon opening were Café Coffee, Au Bon Pain, Sbarro and Chopsticks.  Before the end of the year, they would be joined by Burger King, Ground Round, Freshens Yogurt and Nathan's Famous.

105 (E101) - The former Honey Dew Donuts (opened in about 2021 and closed as of September 2023) used to be a Dunkin' Donuts from about 2003 to 2021. It had previously been Nancy's Coffee Cafe until 2002.

105 (E105) - The Toy Vault at Warwick Mall (since August 2010) used to be a Tilt arcade center going back to the 90's until 2010.

105 (E107) - Buffalo Wild Wings (since 2014) at the end of the food court used to be a Ground Round Restaurant from late 1992 until early 2004.  It then became a Chelo's Restaurant from 2005 to 2010.

105 (F5) - Johnny Rockets (since 2017) used to be a Burger King, which operated in the food court from 1992 until about 2016.
108 - A part of the Old Navy store is also located in the area of the mall that used to be CVS Pharmacy from about 1980 (was previously at unit 132) until closing just a few weeks before the flood in March 2010.  Unit 108 used to be The Jeanery from 1970 until becoming Record Town about 1986 into the 90's, although it may have actually occupied the unit 104 space mentioned above.

109 - This used to be Stowell's Jewelers from 1970 until becoming Bailey, Banks & Biddle Jewelers by 1990.
110 - One of the most remembered restaurants of the mall before the food court opened in August 1992 was the York Steak House, which was here from the early-to-mid 70's to 1989 (It was reopened as York Restaurant in 1987).
112 - This used to be Kennedy's clothing store from 1970 to the early 90's.
113 - The former Leggings World used to be Thayer McNeil Shoes from 1970 to about 1989. By 1982, it was called Florsheim Thayer McNeil Shoes.
116 - Aeropostale used to be Hahn Shoes from 1970 until about 1990. It then became Disney Store from 1990 until 2010.

117 - Pink used to be Ann Taylor Sportswear. beginning in 1970 and operating all the way until about 2010.

120 - This used to be Nugent's women's apparel beginning in 1970. 
124 - This used to be Waldenbooks from 1970 until moving to unit 104 in about 1992.
125 - This used to be The Gentry Shop clothing store from 1970 to about 1989.

129 - This used to be Hanover Shoes beginning in 1970. 
132 - Claire's used to be CVS Pharmacy beginning in 1970 and was later Open Country shoe store from about 1980 to 1987. 

133 - This used to be Joan Bari Boutique beginning in 1970.  It became Five Seven Nine Shop (5-7-9) by 1985.

136 - This used to be The Children's Photographer after starting as Tie Corner from 1970 to about 1972. It then became Jeweled Casuals by 1977 and The Jewel Tree by 1989.

137 - This used to be Hallmark Card & Party No 2. It became Up's n' Downs in about 1986 after moving from unit 169.
140 - This used to be Century Disc record store from 1970 to the mid 80's. It later became ACA Joe  clothing in the mid-to-late 80's.

148 - This used to be Newport Creamery going all the way back to 1970 (originally listed as Newport Creamery Milk Bar until 1972) for 50 years before closing in 2020.
152 - GNC (since about 2010) used to be an Aladdin's Castle arcade from 1975 to about 1995.  It then became GNC before changing to Vitamin World in November 2003 until about 2010.  Before Aladdin's Castle, this was earlier The Plum Tree from 1970 to 1975.
156 - With the closing of Newport Creamery in 2020, Lane Bryant clothing is now the only store remaining inside Warwick Mall (Firestone operates outside the mall) from the mall's opening in 1970.

160 - This used to be Citizens Bank.

160 (2) - Located near J.C. Penney, this was Pasta Express in the early 80's before becoming The Roast House Restaurant from about 1984 into the 90's.

162 - This used to be Warwick Mall Salon
164 - This started as Jonathan's Eatery when the mall opened in 1970. 168 - Zale's Jewelers (since 1996) used to be C.B. Tobacco Co. beginning in 1970 and then became Karten's Jewelers from 1986 to 1996.

169 - Journeys used to be Up's n' Downs until about 1986 (moved to unit 137) when it became Baker's Shoe Store (moved from unit 196) until about 2012.

172 - Bath & Body Works (since 2020 after moving within the mall) is at about the location that used to be Mary Jane Shoes starting in 1970. It then became AS Becks Shoes in about 1978 through the 1980's. In the early 90's, it was Dolci's and later Gap Kids with The Gap next door by the late 90's until 2010. 

173 - Lids used to be Stride Rite Bootery for over 45 years from 1970 until in closing about early 2017.

176 - This used to be Albert's Hosiery beginning in 1970. 

177 - Zumiez used to be Hallmark Card & Party No 1.

180 - This used to be Anderson-Little clothing beginning in 1970.

181 - Auntie Anne's used to be Fanny Farmer Candy Shops beginning in 1970. 

184 - This used to be Lerner Shops beginning in 1970 until being renamed New York & Company in 2002. H & M took over this spot in June 2012, while New York & Company moved a few doors down closer to Target.

185 - Torrid clothing store (since 2015) used to be Susie's Casuals beginning in 1970 and operating into the 1990's. It later became a Radio Shack store from about 2003 until closing in 2015.

188 - This used to be Morse Shoe Store from 1970 until changing to Fayva Shoe Store in March 1989. 189/191 - The former The Paper Store (2012 to 2022) used to be Abercrombie & Fitch from about 2000 until 2010.   Unit 189 had been Kinney Shoes from the early 1970's until about 2000.  

191 - This used to be Casual Corner from 1970 to 2001.                       

196 - This used to be Baker's Shoe Store until about 1986 (moved to unit 169). It then became The Limited (women's clothing).

197a - This used to be Harvest House Jr Restaurant. It then became Thom McAn Shoes about the mid 80's.  Photo: From about the early 1990's, Thom McAn, Kay-Bee Toys and a vacated Woolworth store are seen on the left and Fayva Shoes, The Limited and Wallach's are on the right. 

197b - This used to be Harvest House Coffee Shop.  It then became Kay-Bee Toys about the mid 80's.

197c - A Woolworth department store opened here at the mall's inception in 1970 and remained until closing in January 1990.

198 - This used to be Wallach's from the early days of the mall into the 1990's.

199 - This used to be Hickory Farms until becoming Victoria's Secret in about 1988.

200 - Target (since July 2008) on the first floor and the current Golf Galaxy (since March 2020) and former Sports Authority (2009 to 2016) on the second floor used to be a Jordan Marsh Department Store from July 1970 to March 1996. It was then Macy's Department Store from March 1996 to 2006 before moving to a new location in the mall.

275 - Torn down in 2014 (now the location of Jared) and located outside of the mall on 205 Lambert Lind Highway, the former Rhode Island Costume (from at least 2001 to 2014) used to be Dick's Arco service station from 1971 to about 1982 after starting as Kibbe Bros. Arco in 1970. It then became Entre Computer Center from the mid 80's into the 90's.

300 - Jordan's Furniture used to be The Outlet Department Store from 1970 to 1982. It then became Caldor Department Store from March 1983 until 1999 and Old Navy from 1999 to 2010 before moving to a new location in the mall.
350 - Longhorn Steakhouse and Red Robin Restaurant (since 2011 and formerly Romano's Macaroni Grill from 2001 to 2008) were built at about the former location of Warwick Mall Cinemas I, II and III (I and II until the early 80's). The theater opened in April 1971 and closed nearly 28 years later in January 1999.  It was then torn down the following year to build the two restaurants.  Showcase Cinemas Warwick Mall was also built at the mall at that time and opened in June 2001 until March 2020 (did not reopen after closing due to the pandemic). It was replaced by Apple Cinemas, which opened in March 2022.
400 - Macy's Department Store (since 2006 after moving across the mall) used to be Filene's Department Store from 1970 to 2006.  Photo: Filene's Department Store.  Credit: Warwick Mall

450 - A standalone building operating outside the mall, this has been Firestone Auto Care all the way since the inception of the mall in 1970.
475 - Not Your Average Joe's Restaurant was built near the former location of the European Health Spa from April 1971 to about 1980, when it became American Health Fitness Center.  In 1983, the name was changed to Holiday Health & Fitness (later Bally's Holiday Fitness Center) and remained into the 90's. The building was torn down in 2011.
500 - Warwick Medical Building used to be a Chateau de Ville dinner theatre from March 1973 (opened with a production of Fiddler On The Roof) until January 1982. It opened as a theater/dining hall with about 700 seats and included a large chandelier over a grand staircase.  The stage shows were ended about 1978 and a discotheque was added.  After closing, the building used as a night club (Sanctuary). The building was then transformed into a medical center (RIGHA) in 1985 and is now the Warwick Medical Building.
600 - This has been a J.C. Penney department store since 1980.

Warwick Neck Avenue
295 - Located just a mile from Rocky Point Park, this used to be the long-time home of Kay's Drug Store (was listed as Kay's Variety in the 1940's before changing to Kay's Drugs by the early 50's).  By the 80's, it was Warwick Neck Pharmacy and from 1998 to the early 2010's, it was Warwick Neck General Store.  It is currently The Learning Garden daycare and preschool.

315 - Warwick Neck Garage (since 1978) used to be a 7-Eleven convenience store from about 1970 to 1975 (closed after a fire).

10 - Citizens Bank used to be Old Stone Bank from about 1969 until the mid 90's.
45 - This used to be Italian Bread Box Bakery (was previously at 745 West Shore Rd.) from the 90's until the early-to-mid 2010's.
50 - Bank Of America (since 2004) opened as a Fleet National Bank branch (moved from 40 Airport Rd.) in about 1987.
425 - Moddycoddles Pet Grooming used to be a Shell service station (LaJoie's and then George's) in the late 50's and early 60's.  It then became Conimicut City Service by 1964, D & H Sinclair by 1965, Conimicut Sinclair by 1969 (converted to Conimicut BP by 1970) and Conimicut Citgo by 1973.  It would later become RI Rentals from about 1976 to 1982, Sunnybrook Farms from the mid 80's into the 90's and West Shore Market from the 90's to the mid 2010's.
441 - Centre Stage School Of Dance in Bay Plaza used to be Country Fresh Dairy Store from 1969 to about 1978 when it became Co-Op Credit Union.  By 1982 it was R & B Crafts & Fabrics, which operated all the way into the 00's.
445 - Warwick Liquor Store (since the early 80's) in Bay Plaza started as Ambassador Liquors in 1969. It then became Rotunda Liquors by 1972 and Shane's Liquors by 1979.  Photo: Ambassador Liquors, Angie's Barber Shop and Country Fresh Dairy Store from 1969 at what is now Bay Plaza.

449 - Alice's Restaurant in Bay Plaza used to be Helen's Pantry & Coffee Shop from about 1971 to 1989 and then became Gabrielle's Restaurant. It would become Alice's later in the decade.
453 - This used to be Wunder's Ice Cream from at least the mid 1930's until the early 60's.  It then became Mac's Pizza (also Mac's Restaurant) until the late 60's. In the 70's, it was Express Beauty Boutique, Clint's TV, Phillips Carpet Sales and Frenchy Fine Foods.
636 - Shop 'n Go convenience store used to be a Sunnybrook Farms store from about the late 60's to early 80's, when it became a Dairy Mart Store until the mid-to-late 90's.
644 - This has been the home of Timmy's Restaurant since July 1975.
661 - Seaward Boatworks used to be the location of Charlton Gulf service station in the 50's until becoming Davies' Gulf from about 1966 to 1977.  It then became Hughie's Transmission Service until the mid 80's and then City Towing from the late 80's and operating into the 00's.
695 - Conimicut Variety Store used to be Conimicut Pharmacy from late 1985 to the early 90's.  It had been a Cumberland Farms convenience store (listed at 691 West Shore) from about 1969 to 1979. It became Steve's Deli and Produce after that and then Lupino's Bakery by 1982.
697 - This used to be Lupino's Pizza from about 1975 to 1984 (moved to 1247 West Shore Rd).  It would later become part of Conimicut Pharmacy.
739 - Allstate Appliance Service (since about the early 90's) used to be Conimicut Pharmacy from at least the mid 50's to the mid 80's before moving to a new location.  In between, it was Dental Maintenance Service.
745 - Shoreline Pizza used to be Italian Bread Box Bakery from about the late 60's into the 90's,  Before that, it was Kennedy's Bakery from at least 1936 until about 1967 and then DiStefano Brothers Bakery after that.
753 - This used to be an A & P Market from at least the 1930's until the late 60's.  In the 70's, it was R.A. Florio Meat Market and then Warwick Super Meat Market until the mid 80's.  It was later Western Beef Co. restaurant in the mid 80's and Mighty Fine Donuts & Bakery in the late 80's into the 90's.
759 - WPD Community Service office used to be Seaside Fish Co. in the 60's until the early 80's.  It then became West Shore Seafood from the early 80's to late 80's.  Before Seaside, it was Christy's Restaurant and also Nick's Restaurant in the 50's.
783 - This used to be Silva's Conimicut Drug Store in the 50's and then became a Sunnybrook Farms store in the 60's until about 1967.
789 - Torn down in 1990 after a fire the previous year, this used to be Conimicut Fruit Stand from the 50's until about 1985, when it became West Shore Market. Later in the decade it was a jewelry manufacturer (Kiro Assembly/Twilight Jewelry) and a pizza house (Armenti's).
799 - This used to be the longtime home of Salk's Department Store from about the late 40's to the mid-to-late 90's.  It was later Ray-Els House Of Bargains used furniture store. Photo credit: Warwick Bldg. Dept.

835 - McCrudden's Radiator Service started as McCrudden's Atlantic Service Station in 1959. After being converted to Arco in 1970, it became McCrudden's Radiator Service by 1975. In the late 50's before McCrudden's, this was Associated Fuels service station.
877 - This used to be Duquette's Pioneer Market for over 40 years until 1978 (photo credit: Rhode Island Then and Now).  Around Town Donuts and later Paul's Restaurant operated at this location during the 80's and into the 90's.

957 - Most recently Emery's Catering Service, this used to be Frederick's Restaurant from 1971 until late 1988.  It became Martucci's West Shore Inn in 1989 until April 1993 and then Cornucopia Restaurant in April 1993 until about the end of that year or early 1994, 1957 Club at about the start of 1995 and Four Flags Buffet Restaurant (opened in August 1996). Before Frederick's, it was Casey's Tavern in the 50's and early 60's, Nick and Nan's (opened in 1963), Cappy's Twilight Zone (opened in October 1963), Club Fargo (opened in 1965) and Mile & A Quarter House tavern and restaurant beginning in November 1968.

990 - Enlightened (Readings By Lisa) used to be Ginny & Dots Candy Corner from the early 60's to about 1977.
1008 - Davies' Service Center used to be Ban-I-Mar Automotive Supply & Service Co. (was also a Texaco station) from the 1940's to about 1977. It then became Davies' Gulf until about 1987 when it changed to its current name while operating under the Texaco brand.  It would later switch to Citgo and Valero before becoming strictly a repair shop.  Photo: A montage of Davies' Service Center operating under four different brands from 1986 to 2006.

1035 - Before being torn down around 2007 to build the Warwick Housing Authority, this used to be Shawomet Cafe (later The Shawomet) going back to the 1950's until about 1976. Later restaurants here included: The Barn Door Family Restaurant and Pub by 1977, Pirates Cove by 1980, Frankie's Restaurant by 1981, Sandpiper Restaurant in 1982, Royal Palace in 1984, Great Wall of China by 1987, Chinatown Restaurant by 1995, De Ja by 1999, Warwick Banquet Hall in 2002 and Catfish Grill by 2004.

1040 - Residential property now occupies the area that was the former location of the popular Jennie's Dairy Freeze (see below) for about 55 years until 2004.  In its early days, it was referred to as Carvel Dari-Freeze operated by Jennie's Ice Cream Store. Did you know?: The original Jennie's (Jennie's Home Made Ice Cream) was located at 1093 Elmwood Ave. in Providence from 1924 to the mid 50's. A second store in Providence was located at 160 Prairie Ave. in the mid-to-late 40's.

1155 - Sunrise Café restaurant used to be Shawomet Grill in the early 50's and Thelma's Spa variety store in the late 50's until becoming Henri's Restaurant & Delicatessen by 1963. It then became Ed Cobb's Restaurant by 1964, Al and Irene's Restaurant from about 1966 to 1976, Rose's Kitchen by 1977, Buster's Restaurant by 1982 and Jeannie's Restaurant by 1987 and operating into the 90's.
1196 - Gulf Express used to be the location of an American/Amoco service station from about 1963 to 1975, when it became a Cumberland Farms store into the early 00's.
1210 - This used to be Warwick Town Tavern from about 1963 until becoming TK's Lounge in the early 80's. It was later JC Lounge in the late 80's, Park Place Bar and Grill in the 90's and Judy's Bar and Grill in the 00's.
1212 - This used to be Ricky's Towne Restaurant from about 1966 to 1980, when it became Jelly Belly Deli. It then became TK Kitchen shortly after until the mid 80's and no longer listed after that.
1230 - Conimicut Liquors (since 2015) used to be Baxter's Crown Liquors from at least 1970 until the mid 00's when it became Brady's Liquors.  Earlier in the mid-to-late 60's, it was Town Liquors.
1234 - This used to be Crystal Clear Ice Cubes from about 1978 into the early 90's and then disappeared (or melted away!) forever.
1239 - This used to be Hairworks II unisex salon from about 1986 to 2016. It started in 1963 as Parker Salon of Beauty and then became Robertt's Beauty Salon by 1965 and then Susan Beauty Salon by 1978 until the mid 80's.
1241 - This used to be Joe Guisti's Meat Market from about 1963 to 1986.  For the rest of the 80's, it was Maguire's Meat Market and then West Shore Meats. It would become RIJO Sports Shop by the early 90's and was later A1 Carpets to Roll by the early 00's.
1243 - This used to be a Sunnybrook Farms store from about 1966 to 1982, when it became a Dairy Mart. After changing to Ed's Mart in the late 80's, it would become Milk Mart (later Mega Milk Mart) from the early 90's into the early 2010's.
1247 - This used to be Lupino's Pizza from about 1984 into the 00's, when it became Demo's Pizza Factory in 2007. It was earlier Showbrook Restaurant starting about 1964 and then Woodlawn Laundry & Cleaners from about 1969 to 1984.
1357 - Buck's Esso was a small service station located at the corner of West Shore Road and Bend Street (The Esso sign was visible from Bend Street Field) from 1947 until about the late 70's (as Buck's Exxon).  It was later Sands Auto Repair in the 80's and then torn down in the 90's.  Below: The building that had been Buck's Esso for many years was still standing (just barely!) in 1990.

1705 - Cantina Del Rio Restaurant (since September 2018) used to be Duggan's Corner Restaurant for many years until the late 70's.  It then became Fiddler's Green Restaurant from 1978 to about the mid 00's, when it would turn into Rocky Point Pub until 2013. After that it was DiMicco's Authentic Italian Eatery from December 2015 until about 2018.
1710 - The corner of Warwick Neck Ave. and West Shore Rd. (said to have been called Carlson's Corner long ago) used to be location of Carlson Chevrolet in the 1950's. After being vacant, it was rebuilt into an Atlantic service station (Don's Atlantic) by 1968. It was later converted to Arco in 1970 and Shell in 1985. It is currently a Sunoco service station and a Dunkin' Donuts store.
2078 - 7-Eleven used to be the long time location of the Venetian Garden restaurant from about 1960 until the early 00's. It was torn down in early 2003 to build the convenience store.  Before that in the 40's and 50's, Renzi's Super Service was at this location.                                                                           

2100 - This used to be Bevlin Pony Ring from about the early 50's to early 60's.
2117 - Fisher Auto Parts used to be West Shore Supermarket in the 50's and early 60's. Other businesses here have included Henry's Super Market (opened in August 1982), Gordie's Market (opened in 1964), Gordie's Milk & Meat (opened in 1965), Warwick Community Action (opened in July 1966 through the 70's), Mallino Cigar & Candy (early 80's), Moniz General Store Warehouse (early-to-mid 80's) and McLaughlin Automotive Stores for over 25 years from March 1984 into the 2010's.
2187 - This used to be Healey's Shellfish Company from about 1968 until closing in 1996. Earlier listed at 2175 West Shore Rd. was Folly's Landing Shellfish Co. from at least the late 50's until about 1968.
2121 - Sports Legends Pub (since about the mid 90's) used to be Basil's Pizza from 1978 until changing to Mickey's Pub in 1991, while Basil's moved up the street.  Earlier, it was Richard Drug in the 60's and Old Coachhouse Deli (later Izzy's) in the 70's.
2211 - Shell Service Station (since about 2010) used to be a Mobil Mart from the mid 90's until becoming Getty and converted to Lukoil in the late 00's. This was once the location of a restaurant that started as Little Chef Drive-In Restaurant in the early 60's.  After some construction, it would later become Jiffy Dairy Bar (see photo) by 1966, Rick's Roast Beef from about 1968 to 1975, Hill Family Drive Inn by 1976, Happy Days Ltd. by 1977, Charlie's Restaurant from about 1979 to 1983, Jimmy's Restaurant by 1984 for the rest of the decade and Bethany's Restaurant in the early 90's.

2227 - Sam's Inn restaurant (since 2013) used to be known as The Inn from 1969 until the early 2000's, when the name was changed to Bassett's Inn.  It was earlier Neva's Cottage Restaurant from about the early 50's to the mid-to-late 60's, when it became Doreen's Restaurant.
2247- Boneyard Barbecue and Saloon (2015 to 2018) used to be Caserta Pizzeria from the mid-to-late 80's to early 90's.  It was later Basil's Pizza from about 1991 to 1996 and then became Backstreet Bar & Grill from the mid-to-late 90's to early-to-mid 2010's.
2274 - DP's One Stop Laundry used to be Bayberry Farms Convenience Store in the 50's all the way into the 90's.
2291 - West Shore Coffee Bar (since 2018) used to be Peter's Restaurant from the early 70's to about early-to-mid 00's.
2298 - Peter's Coney Island System used to be a Pizza Hut Restaurant from late 1979 to 1985.  It was also La Paloma Mexican Restaurant in the mid-to-late 80's and a Dairy Queen restaurant from July 1991 to about 1993.

2301 - Dear Hearts Ice Cream used to be Kay's Ice Cream from 1978 into the 00's.

2318 - The Islander Restaurant (since 1972) used to be Tommy's Clam Spa Restaurant (later Tommy's Restaurant & Lounge and Tommy's 88 Restaurant) from 1964 to 1971. 
2424 -This used a Dutchland Farms store that opened in 1976.

2428 - Sunnyside Restaurant in Veterans Plaza used to be The Taco Machine in 1982 before becoming DJ's Sunnyside Up by 1985.
2436 - Bright Cleaners in Veterans Plaza started as Record Rack in 1976. It then became Nutcracker Candy by 1979, Alison Bridal Boutique by 1982 and McDonald's Cleaners by 1987 into the 90's.
2444 -  The location of Veterans Plaza used to be Joe's Spa from about the early to mid-to-late 60's. Before Joe's, it was Poirier's Variety from at least 1940 into the 50's, Cave's Variety and also Charlie's Spa.
2446 - This used to be Riccotti's Sandwich Shop from about 1975 to 1995.
2470 -  Han Palace Chinese Restaurant (since August 1989) used to be Maison Dore French Restaurant from about 1950 until 1968 when it became Le Ticoz French Restaurant. It then became Bassett's Restaurant from the early 70's to the late 80's.
2501 -  CL Marine used to be Moore's Flying A service station in the late 50's until becoming Vinny's Flying A by 1967.  It was then converted to Manfredo Getty in 1970 and became West Shore Getty by 1973. It would change to West Shore Texaco by 1985 and continue into the 90's.
2553 - The former Viv's Restorantie Pizzaria (2018 to 2019) used to be Golden Skillet Fried Chicken Restaurant from about 1970 to 1976.  It then briefly became Eric's Family Restaurant.  By 1982, it was Pizza Express until becoming Micheletti's Family Restaurant in 1990. It later became the long time home of Brother's Oven Pizza from 1998 to 2018.
2563 (1)- West Shore Food Mart used to be a Cumberland Farms store from about 1970 into the 90's.
2563 (2) - Metro PCS used to be a Bess Eaton Donuts from about 1970 to 1981. It then became Donuts To Go in late 1982 and Brunch 'n' Lunch in May 1983. After that, it changed to a video store, becoming National Video from 1984 to 1991, later switching to Movie Time Video in 1991 and Showtime Video in 2004. By the early 2010's, it was Mattress Sets.
2574 - Dave's Fresh Marketplace (since August 2020) and former Benny's (1999 to 2017) used to be a Star Market from January 1961 until being converted to Almacs in 1990 until about 1993.  Below top: Star Market at about the time of its conversion to Almacs in 1990.  Below bottom: The huge Star Market sign that stood above Wilde's Corner for many years.

2595 - The current Walgreens and former Rite Aid Pharmacy opened in December 1962 as Adams Drugs until 1985, when it changed to Brooks Drugs.
2588 - Before Star Market was built in the early 60's, Oakridge Farm was at this location.
2615 - Burger King has been at this location since 1973.  The original building was torn down in 2011 and rebuilt.
2625 - TD Bank was built at about the former location of a Mobil service station (Wilde's Corner Service Center, Wilde's Corner Mobil and Steve's Mobil) from at least the early 50's until the mid 80's, when it became Auto World Sales & Service for the rest of the decade. It later became Shannon Motors and was torn down about 2011.  Photo 1: The Mobil station at Wilde's Corner in the 1960's. 2. The same building in 1990 while vacant with a "for lease" sign out front.

2647 - The Whalen used to be Kay's Sammy Café and Restaurant from about the mid-to-late 50's to 1963, when it became Whalen Square Café.
2648 - Herb's Towing & Service Center used to be the location of Kent County Automotive and later R & M Service Station in the 50's (both listed at 2628 West Shore). It was R & M Texaco in the early 60's, before being remodeled as Herb's Sunoco by 1963 until about the early-to-mid 00's. It continued to sell gasoline as an independent.
2653 - This used to be Sam's New York System restaurant from 1968 to 2006 and relocating to its current location nearby off of Sandy Lane after a fire to a nearby store in 2006 caused the strip mall it was located in to be torn down (Included business listed below through 2669 West Shore Rd.  It is now a vacant lot).  Previously, this had been Kel-Ann's Luncheonette and Bakery from about the early 50's to early 60's and Doreen's Restaurant from the early 60's to mid-to-late 60's.
2655 - This used to be Kay's Package Store from the 50's until the early 80's.  It then became Don's Cycle Shop for the rest of the decade. Sydnis Consignment then opened here in the fall of 1995 and continued into the mid 00's.
2657 - This used to be Whalen Square Barber Shop from the 50's until the early 80's, when it became Whalen Square Unisex Salon until the mid 80's. It was later Sports Heroes baseball cards in the 90's and Warwick Appliance Company in the early 00's.
2661 - This used to be Bayshore Pharmacy from 1952 to about the early 90's (for more info on the pharmacy, see the comments section at the bottom of the page). It later became Simply Kids consignment store.
2663 - This used to be D & L Shooting Supplies from the mid 70's until 2006 (now at 3314 West Shore Rd.). Earlier, it was Russo's Hardware from the 50's to mid 60's and then Martini's Hardware until the early-to-mid 70's.
2665 - The main business in the D'Angello Building at this address used to be Lupino's Pizza in the late 50's.  It later became Armand's Restaurant in the 60's and early 70's. From the mid 70's to early 80's it was Trina women's apparel and then Finesse Fashions from the early 80's into the 90's.
2667 - This was a convenience store from the mid 70's to 2006 as Sunshine Farms (mid 70's), Sunnybrook Farms (mid-to-late 70's to early 80's), Dairy Mart (early 80's into the 90's), Dan's Dairyland and Quick Mart.  It was earlier Flodon's Shoes and Woodford Furniture and Rug Cleaning
2669 - This used to be S & S Electronics from the late 50's until the mid-to-late 70's,
2672 - Sandy Lane Auto Sales and Repair used to be Dave's Fruitland in the early 70's until moving to 2687 West Shore Road in 1978.  It then became Hank's Flowerland.  After that, it was Reid's Fish & Chips by 1982, Wilde's Corner Auto Sales by 1987, Welch's Car Sales by 1991. It was later Car Emporium by 2000 into the 2010's.
2677 - Dunkin' Donuts has been at this location since July 1980.
2680 - A small plaza that includes Dollar General used to be the location of a Newport Creamery restaurant from April 1987 until 2001.  It then became Boat World from June 2002 to about 2008 and vacant for a few years before being torn down in 2015. 
2687 - Until moving to 2574 West Shore Rd. in August 2020, this used to be Dave's Marketplace (originally Dave's Fruitland), which had been at this location since 1978 after moving from across the street at 2672 West Shore Road.
2987 - Papa's Ice Cream used to be Coffey's Atlantic service station in the 50's before becoming Henessey's Atlantic in the early 60's until about 1977.  In the 80's, it was SM Auto Service, Vinny's service station, Brookfield Hills Servicenter, David's West Shore Mobil and then David's Automotive Services into the 90's.
3001 - Nailtek used to be a Sunnybrook Farms store from the early 60's to about 1978.  It became Stonybrook Store and then PJ's Kitchen in the early 80's. After that, it was Teddy Bear Yarn & Crafts by 1985, Press Express dry cleaners by the early 90's and Hobby Zone by the early 00's before becoming Nailtek later in the decade.
3002 - Buttonwoods Automotive Service used to be Coffey's Texaco service station from the early 60's until becoming Knight's Texaco by 1970 and Ralph's Texaco by 1973.  It then became Buttonwoods Gulf service station by 1987 into the 90's.  Photo: Buttonwoods Gulf in the early 90's.

3003 - Mike & Gel's Pizza (since 2017) used to be Lakis Pizza Parlor from the early-to-mid 80's until late 2013.  In between, it was Palazzo's Pizza & Pub.  Earlier, it had been Jane's Variety Store in the 40's to early 50's and Prando's Bakery in the 50's, 60's and early 70's before becoming Italian Bread Box Bakery and Sandra's Creative Flower Works during the 70's.
3030 - Ocean State Job Lot and Workout World share the space that used to be an Almacs Supermarket from January 1961 until 1995.  The Almacs here had been expanded into a "superstore" in 1992.
3040 - Attached to Almacs, this used to be Columbus National Bank of RI from 1969 to about 1983.  It later became a Major Video store for a few years, starting in 1986.
3310 - This used to be Bert's Market from about the mid-to-late 40's to 1969.  The market had earlier  been Eastman's.
3314 - D & L Hunting and Outdoor Lodge used to be a 7-Eleven convenience store (listed at 8 Nausauket Rd.) from about 1971 to the mid 90's.  It was also a Movie Time Video store from June 1996 to about 2006.
3344 - Gabriel's Exxon Tiger Mart used to be Rouse's Esso service station from at least the early 50's until becoming Lee's Esso by 1964. It then became C & R Esso by 1967 (converted to C & R Exxon in 1972) into the 90's and was rebuilt during that time.  In the 00's, this was a Sunoco station and changed back to Exxon by 2012.

3600 - This has been National Refrigeration since at least the early 90's.  It was previously the location of The Dooley Swim Club, which opened in June 1974 and featured an Olympic-sized pool and a snack bar.

3618 - Clean Care Of New England used to be Bay View Industries from about 1972 and then operating into the 90's.     

3620 - This used to be Cartoon Celebrities Inc. and then became Ricinda Jewelry by 1977 until the 90's.

3630 - EB Marine used to be Hama Armature Co. automotive rebuilders (starters, generators and alternators) from 1961 to 2001. It then became Wood Boat & Motor from 2002 to 2022.

3661 - This used to be Lloyd Manufactuing going back before 1940 until about 1978. It then became Luben Plastics Engineering and later was Cut Rate Flooring. Other businesses also operating in this building have included Symphony Creation, JB Prata Ltd tape & strapping and Champion Sports Gym (early 90's).

3666 - NAPA Auto Parts used to be Apponaug Auto Supply from about 1971 to 2003.

3670 - Vortex used to be Tolhurst Inc. starting around 1976. Later here was Defelice property managers and American Home Loans. Other businesses in this building have included Robinson & Myrick & Assoc., Forms Plus, Albert Realty, Agape Counseling Center, Sam the Carpet Man, Armeny, Lantana Systems and Strategic Systems.

How this blog started:

The origins of this blog began in my hometown of Warwick and it then took a strange detour through Sarasota, FL to make it happen.  It started back in the mid-1980’s, when I became interested in old gas stations and for the next few years, took hundreds of photos of gas stations throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, many of which are included here and on the Cranston blog and now on the link just above.  During a visit to the Warwick Public Library in 1990, I noticed a whole section of both current and old yearly street directories that were sitting in racks within the reference area of the library (they are now stored away in the librarians' reference room and can be viewed by request).  They included several RI cities and in some cases, went back 50 years or more. Since this was in the days before electronic devices, I took a notebook and wrote down a year-by year history of the names of many gas stations I had taken photos of by their address (similar to the blog today).  By the mid-90’s, I had relocated to Sarasota, FL and many years later, around 2013, came across the Google Newspaper Archives, which had digital copies of Sarasota newspapers from microfilm going back almost 100 years. I became fascinated going through old ads and stories to see what not only old gas stations used to be before I moved to Sarasota, but also restaurants and stores.  After viewing a brief Youtube video taken in 1989 of a drive through of US 41 in Sarasota, which sparked my interest even more, I then looked up online to find where the Sarasota street directories are located and found them at the Sarasota County History Center, using a spreadsheet to type my findings again listed by address and year.  While I was doing this, I remembered and found the old notebook from 1990, which had survived about ten moves, and entered the gas stations from Warwick on a spreadsheet. After doing that, I became interested in Warwick again, so on my yearly family visits there, I spent a few mornings at the library, researching those same directories from 25 years earlier and capturing the information needed on various business establishments and entering it on the spreadsheets.   I then decided to write a blog on the information I had written on Sarasota, which I kept putting down after starting, but finally came together in June 2017 with about 150 addresses listed.  At the same time, I decided to do a similar blog for Warwick and it was put together quickly and posted the same day with only about 65 addresses listed.   As it turned out, the Warwick blog was the first of the two that a reader posted to a group page, and aside from the occasional spike from a Sarasota group posting, has consistently garnered more page views on a daily basis ever since.  While it is impossible to include every business establishment Warwick has ever had, it is a never ending task and I keep finding more and more addresses to list (now up to almost 600).
